When installing the pipe it appears an o ring may be needed. Can someone advise me.

Hi Wes,
there should be a small fibre washer on the spigot of the oil pressure gauge to seal under the pipe fitting.
You may be able to fashion a thin washer from gasket paper to form a seal.

As Redbaron has said, there should be a gasket there. The original, according to the Alpine Parts Manual, was cork. See the listing for the oil pressure gauges and gasket.
