Original Caps and Beauty Rings

Hi All

I know most of you do not have the factory steel wheels mounted, but for those that do or for those that remember...What is the secret for getting the caps off without chewing up the beauty rings and/or the powder coating on the wheels?:confused:

spooning ?

There's actually a modified "spoon" tool that gently pulls the cap off the first wheel button and things go much easier from then on. I'll poke around for a photo. There's also a combo tire tool bent up with a rubber mallet and hub cap pulling jog in it. Maybe NAPA or other such tool place.

sunbeam specialties still lists the hub cap tool. it might be worth a call to see if they still have some in stock.
 
Tools

Thanks guys...I am suspecting operator error. I have the hub cap tool (3/4") in the original tool kit, but still tend to have problem.:(

Gotta find something to use that is a softer material than the ring or wheel, yet strong enough to pry off the cap w/o affecting anything else.
