My Tiger has a 302 in it, but came with an extra engine that I want to verify as the original for my 1967 MK1 built Oct 1966 There are no valve covers.

Here are the numbers listed on it.

Block: 12 stamped on the block under the intake manifold.
Carburator: 2bbl Aluminum tag C6 DFB
Intake manifold:Stamped 289 C66 9 5-G 236-S
Heads: One stamped 3D22 other stamped 3D19 L6135 stamped in circle
Oil filter converted to block mount.

Original block

The casting number located near the pan rail for a 260 is C30E-6015 B OR C.
WHEREAS 289 s ARE C4OE-6015 B C OR F.

Re. "Original Engine" Question...

Please see the thread at this link, go to page 3 and see my posting and the response(s). Be careful... one can never 100% state that any engine (289 or 260) is actually the "original" Tiger powerplant. Yes, if the production date is known, then the casting numbers and dates can verify if it COULD be the original... but there is NO TIE WHATSOEVER between the actual engine and the Tiger as produced.

If anyone wants to challenge this statement, please correct me.

Matching Valve cover

There is also a build date on the deck on the drivers side behind the water pump. Since your car came with no matching valve cover , what you have is a really heavy table base for the garage. Especially since you car has been converted to a 6 bolt bell housing.Be happy that the work has been done by your PO . Your parts sound close in number maybe a little early. Please check the T.E.A.E. post here, http://teae.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=49&t=2517

Personal opinion here but in a original paint, original equip, totally stock original mileage car one or 2 owner with docs, og rivets, that cat is still in the bag value wise to the right buyer. Other wise enjoy the fruits of your labor, and keep the dust collectors for posterity.

Could I, should I...rebuild original?

Went and found the original 260 block. It's in pretty bad shape, to my eyes...

Was thinking I should go ahead and have it boiled and cleaned as a bare block to keep around. But maybe not even worth that effort?

Even if the bare block could be cleaned up, the cylinders need sleeving... No intent to build it out at this point.

Thoughts?

A: Duh, do it.
B: Nah, if you need a 260, buy a similar era one.
C: Um, what of those other things in the barn...

Consider "B" as the correct direction. The short story goes: 4 decades ago I murdered our original 260 (youth does things like that). Last year I used a core drill, wooden block and a sledge getting the pistons out. We triple boiled and beaded it clean. Only nine of the eight holes need sleeves. The block now has a maple butcher block on it for a flat spot to work on and the frozen heads went to the scrap pile. Surprisingly, the crank turned .010 and purrs away in another project car. The other things in yer barn need dusting . . . .

Agree

With Randy B.

And C whats the 2 door Chevy Suburban looking thing?

Barn: Tiger is project #1, as others...

have been sitting collecting dust for decades...

1966 Mustang GT Coupe; grandpas. All there.
1950 Country Squire (Woodie) wagons (2) (+1 elsewhere) Not all there.

It's actually very refreshing to scratch items from the 'to-do' list, so thank you both for opting "B".

The Mustang(s) and Woodie(s) come after the Tiger and/or during progress and running out of funds.

Sad situ all around.... Too many projects, not enough family remaining.
