Hi All

I am looking for a pair of original upper tail light lenses for my Tiger (9470033). I need the red lenses, inside screw, Lucas number L654. Must be in excellent condition.

Thanks

Jim,

I have some that i took off my car when switching to orange lens for Australia... But will be a while before i can get to them.

Have you cracked one? The originals come up really well if you carefully clean them and buff with a cuttimg compound and then car polish.

You could use modern headlight repair kits but the light sanding of the raised letters on the lens might be an issue.

Search is Over

Found a decent pair of original upper lenses on eBay and had the winning bid.

Thanks to all.

Search is on Again

Hi All,

I am reinitiating my search for upper taillight lens, red, inside screw, Lucas number L654. I need at least one. Must be in NOS or excellent condition.

I had a real decent pair, but I decided to buff them up and instead of using a nice large/slow speed wheel that spreads the pressure, I used a Dremel tool...and cut the heck out the surface on one lens. Tried to sand it out with mediocre results.

So thanks to my stupidity, the search is back on.

Thanks.

Tail light lens

Hi Jim, I have found with success to use 1500- 2000 grit wet and dry sand paper sanded in an up and down motion. Mothers mag polish works great to bring the former lustre back. Or you can clear coat the lens after sanding.

Thanks. I will give it a try. The dremel tool took a few pretty deep gouges. Sanded some of it out, but might be just too deep.

Tail light lens

Hi Jim, you could try giving the lens with the deep scratches multiple coats to build it up . If your afraid of too much clear overall, you can wet sand it down allowing the valley of the scratch to be built up or fill in the scratch with clear by using a hobby paint brush, then wet sanding level with the surface, with one final coat overall.

A Big Thanks

I took your advice and used the clear coat. I gave the gouged areas another light sanding trying to get them as shallow as possible. I then filled them in with some clear coat using a toothpick. I then let it dry for 48 hours. I then wet sanded them again with 800 grit and then 1000 grit. I finished it off by polishing with some correction cream.

IT WORKED. Not perfect...I would rate it a 8.5 out of 10. It is absolutely undetectable unless you really look close.

Hi Jim, I’m glad it worked for you! If you have a couple grungy lenses, there good to practice on honing your skills. It can be used on the front lenses also. I’m happy it worked out:D
