Pebbled Center Grille Surround

Series 4 Alpine production started on 10/27/63 and ended 08/13/65. My green series 4 came off the line Christmas week of 1964. Somewhere in between 10/27/63 and the week of 12/25/64 the badge holder change was made. Series 4 bodies had the top boot doors so would that cover the MK 1 cars?

Having lost the texture on mine after two re-chromes, I'm wanting to find another core, have the chrome removed and do the texturing myself with a Dremel tool. Then send it back for chrome with instructions to only polish the outer portion.

This is quite common. Copper then Nickel then Chrome plating is too much. Do a cost cutting flash chrome and see how that works

If that is possible to put the texture on it with a dremmel then why not make it out of stainless and polish the outside only ? Then it will last forever and match the rest of the stainless trim on the car

I'm talking about restoring an existing part. That's far from an easy piece to machine out of stainless.

I have a pretty nice one in the garage. It came off a round corner Alpine. I have the plain Jane on the car now since it'll be more modified soon it's tool bench art :)
The pebbles are raised not indented and re chroming fills the pebbles over .
Not a great choice of words pebbles more like a 60 to 80 grit smattering ;)

Checked mine today 1214 and it is textured. Car was restored in the late 80’s so i am not sure if it is original to the car.

Looks original to me. As I recall 5 little blue ticks on the lower part of the crown that the Talbot is standing on are there. Some have 4 but since it's never been a compiled list of what's correct and what's not I'm going to say I heard that from an old Tiger owner's wife ;)

Funny thing is I thought is was pitted till I saw this thread.

Are there drawings at the Archives showing what the badge holder was intended to look like? There should be a sticker to install that says it "contains original factory pits". Rootes may have fired the original vendor due to quality issues.

Mine is more like 220 grit now. I think it's the polishing part of the re-chrome process that takes off the high points. I just bought a decent rechrome candidate from England and will try with that one. The one I have will work for now.
