This is a well known car.. but find it hard to believe that the auction description would have such little info, so few pictures and have the wrong VIN.

Anyone in contact with Mr Lempert?

Looks like "The World's Most Modified Alpine"

Looks like the " The Worlds Most Modified Alpine" as it appears on the Dale's Restorations web site. It appears that this car was one of Dale Akuszewski creations (a famed Tiger restorer, owner and racer in So Cal). I believe it was sold at auctions 3-5 years back (not sure?).
Check it out on Dale's site under completed projects: http://www.dalesresto.com/gal.html
Very nice work!

Hit a Nerve

The link for completed projects is now "red" and non functional. I will take that as confirmation.

The car was sold at a Scotsdale auction 3-4 years ago. Somebody from Calgary, Canada purchased it. Last I new it was doing car shows.

Dale

I just read the ebay add, I guess the car never got finished, as it is advertised with the same mileage as when Lempert sold it. The seller obviously does not know much about the car, but then again, Lempert did not know much about it either.

It's really stunning workmanship Dale, and you can be proud of what you did.. i also remember the pics you used to have of it on the hoist showing the rear suspension setup.

I can imagine if what i heard about lack of payment etc is true that it would be a bitter/sweet car to see.. amazing work.. but nobody likes being $crewed over for payment.

Link Still Works

Rick,
The Link is that of Dale's Completed Projects. Just enlarge screen view and click on "The World's Most Modified Alpine", and view the pics of the build which was very comprehensive. Hope you get a chance to view it.

Those rubber band tires would make for a rough ride on conventional suspension. Wonder how it rides with the new?

I like the color. Is there a similar stock color?

After the mufflers, there is a loop in the exhaust system. Any exhaust experts care to comment on why the loop exists?

Looking at the photo, there is a half loop in the exhaust pipe after the mufflers. Anyone care to comment on what is gained with the exhaust pipe loop?

"Duuuuuuude" if you look at the IRS on the car I think you can assume that the loops are to allow the rear arms to pivot and not hit the exhaust.
