radiator shroud mounts

How does the radiator shroud attach to the front panel, sheet metal screws or machine screws with nuts? TIA.

Tiger Parts Supplement

Here is a snapshot of a page of the Tiger Supplement Parts book. In Rootes terminology, what we call the radiator shroud, they call the radiator cowl.

David,. Thanks for the reference. It looks like there was originally a "rivnut" or fixed threaded nut for the screw. I don't have anything there, getting a nut in that space will be a challenge.

The origional shroud fixes at the centre top by an extended piece that fits to the cowl with 2 small screws and small rivnuts The 2 bottom mounts fix to the lower Radiator mounting bolts
It is very easy to replace the top rivnuts You will need small spacers on the top bolts as the shroud top sits about 8mm above the mounting rivbolts
 
Originality?

Since the washers to act as spacers between the flange on the shroud and the rivnuts are not listed on the parts page, I suspect that adding these washers was not something done at the factory, but by owners seeing the gap between the two. Maybe the "springiness" of the flange when the screws are tightened provides enough tension on the screws to keep them from vibrating loose, since there is no lock washers involved with the screws.
 
Using new rivnuts I was not happy with the space between. A tech friend had a look and found plastic spacers just right in his spare parts bin. I did have to massage about 1mm off them
 
Hunting Stuff

Although the 10/32 rivnut can be found, the thread matching install tool is not !

I had a friend who is a plumber , he'd often fall back to his , " strip it in and leave it for the next guy. " Sure he was kidding but the aluminum doesn't take kindly to the steel screws in the first place. These cars are complicated by always having to remove everything in the way to fix something else so not hard to imagine someone shoving in the wrong screw and stripping it in.
 
I have installed riv nuts with a bolt inserted and wound up with a flat 1"wide bar holding the rivnut down while I tighten the bolt that locks the Riv nut. Used the same method when a bumper nut let go in the front chassis

Yup: That's my method also, BUT, I would rather have the correct threaded tool . . . . .
