Real Mk2 headlight bezels on Ebay

You bet it is

More so than when AC air filter housings were at that high water high market price of 1800 dollars .They are a cast pot metal, and their is no substitute.

NOS? Never mounted? The dings and corrosion pitting must be shelf damage then and under the factory primer. :)

..........yet?

Ever thought about reproing the spark plug socket and bar?
There is some pretty daft money being spent on modern similars at the moment.

True Story

When I purchased our Mark II in 1978 in Colorado, it was missing the correct headlight rims. The PO said that the rims were "prone to loosening up" and often got to the point where, if you hit the right bump in the road, they would "pop off." He had replaced the lost rims with the hooded type from an Alpine sitting in a local junkyard.

Fast forward to 1983 when we moved to Grand Rapids, MI. The car (still awaiting restoration) was sporting the same "wrong" headlight rims.

One day I was at a local "Foreign Car" parts shop called the "Pit Stop" (since closed), and I asked if they had any parts for a Sunbeam Alpine or Tiger. The guy says "I think I have some headlight rims... want to see them?" He returns with two Lucas boxes, each (you guessed it) holding a Mark II headlight rim in factory primer.

"How much do you want for them?" I asked. He replies: "How about $36 bucks?" One of my better parts searching days. I still have the original boxes, the receipt and the rims are on the car... which I also still have (thankfully).:)

My Mark II was TAC'd in 2009. I am sure glad I found those rims in 1983 when prices were still "down to earth."

So are these "peaked?" my set has slight peak to match fender. I'm still confused about all the variations. I'm currently running MK1 "eyebrow version and considering the switch.

Our team is currently evaluating repops of the headlight rims. I didn't tell my partners but they are at a pot metal repop person, not our stamped steel guy. If we make them I want them to be correct. The fan shroud is in testing too. Lee

Widows peak

They have a small widow's peak or hairline like Eddie Munster well sort of.
The confusion lies in the , word peaked being used for eyebrow .

Defsailor, the ones you had for sale when you were at the swap meet , were mark 2 headlight rings . I just bought a set for $400 , that is the good guy price well at least it was two years ago .

The set I just bought for 400 or new old stock no boxes and chromed .I can't get them to fit how I like . I bought a set of eyebrows from you and am looking for a set that has no bondo. I bought two sets at the Swap Meet and all of them have bondo , bummer.
Maybe I will paint them shiny colors and hang them outside with the Christmas lights .

you need to spend time in a parts department at a dealer or a parts house. I have several boxes of sunbeam and simca parts in the attic. years ago I bought out a couple dealers when they were disposing of the parts. how parts were handled and moved around in the 60's was no different than now. the parts room then was the size of a closet. there are a few out there that think a lot of the current NOS parts for sale are returns or rejects but I don't think that. I have NOS items that came out of the stock that tiger tom had after he bought all the parts in the east coast warehouse. this stuff is 50 years old and has been thrown around thru gosh only knows how many owners so it surprises me that it looks as good as it does.

Well you did now....haha :)
I had MkII headlight rings on the Cleo car and loved them--one of the items I should have swapped out before I listed it, oh well. I thought I was out of the Tiger scene--again.

Yes we did

Buck was suggesting aluminium as we discussed a comparison to the blueprints copies he has from our brothers in Sunbeam mother country Rootes archives Graham et al,

I think any metal is better than Tupperware I mean fiberglass or even the carbon fiber replicas of the past.

The job seems to be too big and expensive for the market unlike the AC housing project. Now the tough part is convincing high performance guys a proper filter can flow in the oval housing and not bang their hood, or they need one for showing purrty like.

I would not get my hopes up too much everyone wants stuff but few open their wallets. You guys would not believe the number of guys who said they wanted to make AC housings but could not do it alone. We could not either but the perfect storm came ashore with a side order of belief that it could be done, that was the hardest part.

That is why the CAT club makes the products they do as not many guys would make a 100 sets of headers

Every MK2 owner wants wheel arches but the only way that will happen is for several guys to pony up and get it done.

Got to be a way to do these things done they are no different than a other cars parts only the number of survivors is different,

I wouldn't expect NOS parts to have corrosion pitting and dings under the factory primer though. anyhoo.

I would expect anything when buying 50 year old parts. dings and scratches are part of the patina. common sense would tell you not to expect perfection since parts were not perfect when new. there are also people like myself that clean and detail items before selling them. about ten years ago i bought an NOS front fender, front valance, and a couple other NOS panels for one of my fastbacks. they had the tags showing they were shipped from the east coast sunbeam warehouse to byers in Columbus. i bought them from a seller in western Kansas. he shipped them to me. gosh only knows how many owners there were in the span from the early 70's to the early 2000's. should they have been perfect since they were NOS?

Gilles, I was going to do a whole thread on the tool sets. The spark plug socket and wrench has a current ebay value of 1300 to 1500. There are options to display with your tool sets that are close and the current Britool a61 can be used as is or dechromed, ground and restamped to closely match the original. I have not found a close socket to the correct one with no brand and just a part number except one made by Britool. My current set up is shown in the third picture. A z numbered britool similar to the original. The socket is not close enough but for less than $20 shipped this set-up will do for my beater car until I can buy a reproduction for a couple hundred dollars. The fourth picture is the similar Britool socket that can be used close to the original. I don't believe the concourse judges should have any issue with that socket because it is correct Mfg style finish and size.

Reproduction of this tool is a great project and would meet a the great demand and deflate the market. The blue plastic tool bag is also in very high demand. I am looking for one of those. Lee

now you're just being deliberately obtuse.

I have been thinking about repro socket and tommy bar for a while since I have an original car with complete tool kit. They are ideal candidates for 3-D printing; you either need a surfaced model or a scan of the actual part. To that end I have made drawings of the parts since my search of the Rootes Banbury archives did not turn up a copy. I did find the Rootes drawing for the tool bag however. I took the car to Tiger 50 in the UK this year so have been busy with that and a new house. If anyone has access to a 3-D system PM me.
