I have just rejoined CAT membership. I was a member from roughly 1974 (when I lived in SoCal) until sometime in the early 80's, shortly after I moved back o Northern California. I have a 1967 MKII Tiger [don't recall the vin number as I sit here]. The club use to publish a news letter; I have about a dozen or so of the old newsletters; they have allot tech tips.

One tip not addressed in any of my old newsletters that, I can use some help on is for a fuel pump. My Tiger has been in storage for about 15 years [long story why]. Its still in great condition and I am about to get it ready to roll.

One problem, however, that forever plagued me was the fuel pump. It was always cutting out - stopped pumping. I would have to lift the rear hatch [behind the passenger seat] and tap the fuel pump points with my fingers to get it to start pumping again.

Back in the early 80's there weren't many replacement options, but I have to believe there is an aftermarket pump that does the job.

Any recommendations?

If it is a 1967 Mk2 the fuel pump is in the recess in the trunk. If the pump is under the battery cover, you have a Mk1A. And yes I am sure many will provide you with alternatives. For my rebuild, I found a chap that rebuilds the origional pump with new internals.

There's nothing wrong with the original pumps that a good cleaning and fresh seals & screens kit won't cure. They will pump three times the fuel you will ever need. Changing the points to solid state is a common upgrade that some of our customers have asked for. The basic supply system will drift dirt & rust into the draw line pickup area as gravity does it's thing putting crud at the bottom of the fuel tank cross tube. Dirt on the pump screens "fools" the pump cycle into thinking it has done it's job and it stops. A pre-filter of any sort is a helpful idea. Just DO NOT use a plastic one over the hot muffler

Where can I get the parts to convert my fuel pp from points to solid state and get the screens and seals for the pump?
