Reproduction LAT 72 Housing

Thank You

Thanks for that. My car had an antenna in the correct spot (still does), very plain speaker grilles in the front kick panels (don't know if they were dealer installed, but they are old and have no brand or markings), and one of the small rubberish looking housings but no radio. So my plan is to install the same type of NOS setup I have already, but I have just been offered an original LAT72 radio and housing for $1000. I would like to have it, but hat seems like a whole lot of money to me. Does anyone know if this is a reasonable deal and a worthwhile purchase, considering the above? Thanks.

Mauro,

A housing in good condition can cost anywhere from as low as $800 to as high
as $2000+ it just depends on the overall condition and whether or not a radio
comes with the purchase. THe reproduction costs are resonable based on the accuracy of the materials used and overall appearance of originality. You seldom see a housing for sale and in the last year I have only seen one
and it was not in good condition. At $1000 if it is in good condition and has all of the parts and hanger I would say go for it.

As for the speakers in the kick panels they would have been installed by the previous owner. I have them in my car and they don't work any better than
having just the one speaker mounted under the radio...in my opinion

Quick question--did all Tigers come with the antenna hole cut open, or was it a dealer option? Thanks. My car is in the bodyshop and I am debating about filling the hole.

The original installation instructions ( Which I have ) show the location
of the hole at 14 1/4" from the edge of the door and 2 3/4" from the edge of the hood. This would have been a dealer installed hole. The hole diameter is 7/8". Because of this the hole location could vary depending on who drilled the hole.

Should that say 14 1/4 inches from the door? Mine is just in front of the door on the rt fender by the windshield. Thinking about filling it since I am not running a radio, and if i do it will most likely be for my ipod. Thanks for the measurements.

Manual

Just got a early shop manual and it says S. Smith and sons (Radiomobile) Ltd and (Pye Radio) must be the Uk banded models.

LAT 72

if you look in the kick panel area you will find a stamped opening roughly 1 inch in diameter. your antenna should mount above this opening. that way your cable drops thru easily and you can run it where you want.

oops...What I meant to say was the bidding went around$550 and
I do not know what the reserve is.

I got a reproduction with the metal body vs. the cardboard that included a working correct radio for $500 a few years back. Was found in the bay.

The red knob is a Lucas emergency flasher unit that can be purchased from Victoria British. I used all the correct colored wires and bullet connectors (http://www.britishwiring.com/) to install it.

I have the original instructions for the Sunbeam Alpine/Tiger radio and they come with a template. The hole should be nearer to the windshield, as you say. The instructions are precise in the measurement, and, from memory, it's nowhere near 14 inches from the door. I can dig the information out and provide it if needed.

OKay.....The diagram that I have that is original shows the dimension from the edge of the door where the side glass meets the windshield. THe door
edge bends twords the front of the car at a 180 degree bend goes forward
and then goes straight down and so yes if you use the furthest most edge of the door it would be shorter as would the furthest front of the windshield.
I treid to upload the front page showing all of this but the file is to big so anyone that wants a copy can email me privately.
