Seat Belts

I am doing the finishing touches on the assembly of my Tiger. I realized one thing I did not get great pictures of during disassembly were the seat belts. The car is a MkII and when bought new was European Delivered. It has 3 point belts and I am at a loss as to how they were installed. Does anyone have a diagram or good pictures of how the belts were installed originally. These belts were factory installed and the car has a European Seat Belts Standards plaque on the right door pillar as you can see by the attached photo. Any help would be really appreciated.

The belts have anchor points in the car. The lap has one near the vbertical face of the parcel shelf and the floor to both the left and right of the seats. The shoulder anchor is in the rear wheel arch pressing.. there is a large captive nut. If you look inside the rear wheel arch you will see it as a square plate with the hole in it.. if no belts the factory had a nylon/plastic screw in place.

Being an EU MKII... is it an Alpine 289?
 
Euro delivery

Michael,

The car was purchased at L.A. Reed Sports Cars in Los Angeles and he choose European Delivery. It was the first time he had returned to Europe since he had fought there in WWII. He and his wife drove around Europe and then sent the car home to So. Calif. So the car is a little strange with the Euro seat belts and also a KMH speedometer. I have the original keys and key fob from delivery with the Rootes London info.

Do you happen to have a picture of the speedo? That would be a very rare item.. a MKII speedo in KPH!! I figured only the Alpine 289's would have had them.. the unusual spec of your car is certainly a nice bit of history!
 
Speedo

Here are pictures of the speedo before I restored the gauges.

Where I am having trouble with the seat belts is the studs where the belts attach at the inner rocker panel and near the driveshaft tunnel. Do you have any pictures of these mounting points?
 
Mike.. that is interesting... answers a question.. well starts too.... the speedo is still the EU spec MKI/IA speedo. Looks like maybe rootes never made the MKII EU speedo but reused MKI/IA components.

You dont happen to have a picture of the original dash showing the area in the middle beloow the clock/blanking plate? I've always wanted to see an original MKIi dash and see if they still haad the choke blanking plug.. or they delted the hole for MKII dash.

In the Parts Manual, there is an Mk II KPH speedo listed, part number SN5321/17. The MPH speedo is listed as SN5321/15. In looking at Mike's photo, it appears that his speedo has the number 5321/09, which is listed in the same manual as the KPH speedo for Mk 1/1As. So the question, which you raised, is did Rootes actually have a KPH speedo for the Mk IIs?

And my original Mk II dash does have the choke hole and blanking plug.

Dash hole

Michael,

There was a hole in the dash for the choke pull which the original owner had put an intermitent wiper control knob through. Thnakfully he saved the original dash plug. He never seemed to throw anything away and always kept everything in marked coffee cans. Was very helpful during restoration.

We got a bit off topic. Do you have pictures of your belts where they attach to the rocker and trans tunnel?
