Seat belts

So I finally got my tag so I can actually drive the Tiger I bought. It wasn't the best maidon voyage since the oil pressure gage plastic tube wrapped around the steering wheel universal joints and broke. I didn't get too far so it wasn't a terrible problem, other than cleaning up the oil mess.

However, that's not why I am writing. I have never driven a car without seat belts. So, am I getting a ticket driving this car? I live in Florida.

Your Tiger came with seat belts (lap style). I do believe Florida requires all passengers to be belted. Check out Florida statute section 316.614.

Even if not required, it is for your own safety to be wearing a seat belt. You may not cause an accident, but there are a lot of idiots out there.

Pre 67

In California if you have them you need to use them. If you're looking at strict construction of the law which may or may not be how Florida deals with it a pre-67 car is not required to have them per federal motor vehicle safety standards for the date of manufacture.
Beams makes a fairly priced lap belt.
There's a mounting for 3 point belts but the angle isn't great.

Behind the seats in the lower corners (unevenly spaced) should be factory installed mount points using fine thread nuts w/stress plates. Easier to find from underneath. There may also be the 3-point mount higher on the inner wheel well that can be seen just above the tire.

Randy unless someone cut it out it will have the shoulder mount in the rear arch.. The all did. If never used there will be the plastic screw cap up insude the wheel well stopping dirt and muck getting in.

This photo of one of one of my cars shows the mounting point for a shoulder belt on the inner fender. It's above the top boot door hinge. This happens to be my series 4 but it's the same as a MK1.

Make sure to chase those threads with a clean fine tap. There is either a bolt option or clip-type "eye" if you choose the racing belts. And, good luck not finding any dirt or other scum in the shoulder mount hole!

Belts were optional, from factory "irvin" parachute company belts in either light grey or black. 2 or 3 point. They also had a clear plastic clip to hold the buckle of the shoulder ones when not in use. USA dealers often fitted Robreck ( sp?)

Today the " BEAMS" belts are a nice option... Period looking chrome lift buckle and various colours also they have a nice name for a sunbeam.

My Mk1 had pale blue belts matching the trim. As Michael said I picked up beams belts in a similar colour.

Moss Motors sells Beam's seat belts in two styles. They're either a hook mount or bolt mount and are made in the U.S.A. All mounting hardware is included. Current cost per belt for bolt mount style is $27.99 and hook mount style is $39.99 per belt. They have various colors. This photo shows the bolt mount units in one of four Beams that I have them in.

plain Jane lap belts.
You do have to decide if you get the metal ones If you drop them they love the dent those soft aluminum threshold panels or worse yet the door jambs and their paint. I believe there's lots of threads in discussion on them if you keyword seat belts in the search window. It's not so easy to do on a mobile device sometimes I just start an email type in seat belts and then copy and paste it to the window on the forum. Unfortunately we have antique cars and antique software

Then there's the wider belts that are racing style and are somewhat comfortable but really not very adjustable quickly. I often get a, "who was sitting in my seat."

You'll probably find that most owners that appreciate and take care of their cars will take the time to unbuckle the belt and carefully lay the two sides down instead of just throwing the buckles wherever they may land.
