Spare Tyre Hold Down Bolt

So, why won't a 1/2" course nut screw on it? Me thinks it be 12 threads and not 13 .I looked at mine and I'm going to say "not on your nellie!"

Here's why Randy is asking the question.. IMHO
The Alpine ones are much longer and you need to cut one down to make it like a Tiger one. I suppose if one called on Tom H. You could ask him because I understand that he gets them sent to him to be cut down the shaft pointed and thread's chased.

There are 2 alpine hold down bolts..both longer than the Tiger ones.
The shorter of the 2 was on the s3-IV early SV ( late SV they use a strap to retain the apare) alpine steel wheel cars
The longer on the S3-V for wire wheel cars

Over the years I've found If you have a spare tire that is larger in width then it sets higher in the Alpine spare tire well. The captive nut in the holder of this car moves in a vertical way. Use the point and get the nut in the proper position and tighten the hold down bolt. This photo was taken before leaving Tiger Auto so the spare was in my shop.

Useful advice for alpines .... Not much use for a Tiger...
The reason a Tiger owner will use an alpine bolt is the longer threaded extension will secure a wider wheel where the hub face is higher than a stock steel wheel

whether the bolt is too long really doesn't matter anyway, as there is a hole in the trunk floor (Mk1/Mk1a) under the spare boss anyway... I suppose if you were worried about it getting dirty, or rusty, you could shorten it up. As I have a MK2 I don't have that issue...
