THAT is my old Alger! Very happy that he is advertising it as what it is. When I bought it at a collector car dealer in San Diego ~ 1993, I bought what I thought was a real Tiger for $16K. Looking at the pics brings back lots of memories. I wrecked it in 1996 in Enterprise AL while I was in flight school. The car was totaled at the time and disappeared until a couple of years ago when the new owner posted here. I PMed him and told him the story of the Alger. It is a decent conversion and an could easily be sold as a Tiger again.

I made that dash. It is 1/4 thick redwood burl laminated to hardwood plywood. Will never do that again. It really looks like it needs some new lacquer.

When I had it, it was metallic blue.

Nice car. When I first looked through the pics in the ad, I thought it had different wheels on each side, presumably for conflicting eyewitness reports.

Looks like the JAP wheels are off but come with the sale. I notice that car flippers are bidding on it. It will be advertised as a Tiger at a later date. That is a 100%.

I should have done a better job at wrecking it. :(

Vin

I thought that looked familiar. It stuck in my memory as the number was very similar to a car I owned back then.

The "I should have wrecked it harder," is a interesting statement. Maybe now the guys who take a swing a Duke will be glad to know he is not full of "ridiculous paranoia,"

It is a little interesting that this seller put up the vin in TIROST just last month. It is a nice little car but is like a weed that needs to be pulled off that list.

Too many years at reading newspapers my title is only meant as a eye catcher. There is a place for these cars along with fiberglass and steel replicas.

I have been emailing back and forth with the seller. He is an upstanding guy. The car indeed failed TAC so is 100% not a Jensen modified unibody just as I knew.

When I went back to the dealer to tell them they sold me a fake Tiger, they told me they only "represent" the car and go on what the seller told them. I asked for the seller’s info and they refused to give it. They have been out of business for many years now.

Realize, when I bought this “Tiger”, I was newly married with a low income and had to finance ½ of the purchase price. The day I wrecked the car was they day my wife told me she was pregnant. I was being loaded onto an ambulance and she was afraid I would die without knowing. Woman…

Story

I remember the happy ending, I think.

The insurance company paid off, the full amount.

Well not entirely happy I suppose they surcharged you for 3 years. Something boring old insurance guys remember

The settlement was for over what I owed and I used what I cleared to buy a 67 MGB/GT outright. Title stated Sunbeam Tiger, insurance paid for a Sunbeam Tiger. It was totaled, unibody was bent and I figured it went to the crusher.

One more thing

In 1993 in Cali. Titles were not branded salvage as they are now. Seller states that Georgia is a non title state. That is interesting, so how's that work to prevent salvage cars being sold on there then moved back out with clean title issued by new state and new owner.

A few states are non title for cars over 10 or so years old. Rules seem to still vary a bunch. The path to Tiger hunting is lined with snakes fakes n flakes and a good group of guys as well...:)

And I remember when driving was safe and flying was dangerous!!!

Flipper IDs?

For multiple reasons, is there a way one can discern whether or not a bidder has a history of flips? By partial name? Or are you simply looking at their histories? Or other cars they have for sale?

At $5500-7500(?), obviously there would be lots of interest in many of the parts... as discussed in the other what to do thread.

Click on the cryptic name and it will show you what they have bid on in the last month. If it is nothing but different vintage cars and vintage car parts....my guess he is a flipper.

$22,100!!!:eek::eek:

I paid $16K for it when I thought it was a real Tiger in 1994. Car flippers are counting on a $50-60K sale so it could go as high as $30K I suppose.

Hell, I paid $25K for my REAL Tiger in 2007.
