stainless side trim

I have finely bit the bullit and am fitting the side trim. I bought new trim from SS and all has been going well (I knew that would not last) the rear fender trim is about 4mm to long and fowls the door. Has anyone found a good method of shortening that thin stainless so it mounts and clears the door
 
a bit off topic, but might be helpful:
When I talked to Bill Martin about mounting trim he suggested getting nylon 4-40 screws at the hardware store and sliding the heads in the trim grooves. I haven't tried this yet myself though..

sunbeam spares uk sell a stainless bolt kit for the side trim- I use them on the ends which hold better than the plastic and makes the curving panel end fit tightly
 
Yes I am fitting stainless bolts with the heads profiled to fit the stianless where I can. I have run out of the 3.5mm bolts so found some 3mm bolts that fit the stainless without filling the heads
 
To address the issue directly

First, It's not your job to correct a poorly made part. It must be my age and impatience, but lately, I've been returning improper & poorly made parts to the vendors COD. About 50% of the time I'm told it's my fault (really!) and expected to accept modern inferior products as what's available. As the grey labor force surrenders to age, I've noted the youth doesn't care to excel at anything but billing. It makes us all look bad. Just be happy these old hands can't close around their friggin' necks. . . . . .
 
I finally got around to the rear side trim and thought why is it 4mm to long ? I found an origional old side trim and it is the same length. OK the old saying measure twice and cut once. I checked the 2 holes in the rear of the fender for the motiff, it is about 3mm to far to the front compared with the other side. So carfully extended the two holes and remounted the motif. Now the side trim fits well.
