Wanted Suggesting CAT consider repo of Mk2 grill surround

Over the past 50+ years I've often wondered what was the reason for making a grill that required the use of a different eyebrow? This style used the original unchanged eyebrow. The original of this style was used at least five years prior to the MK 2 grill.

FYI, I am selling , ( or at least traying to sell ) this MII grill finisher for $1800.00 . Not a great piece but its something.

TheOrangeTier: never thought of starting with an earlier surround and cut/fab to add inside lower lip and my first thought would be that the profile on top seems less sloped on Mk2 than Mk1 style grill surround (but don't know, will put a profile/contour gauge on both types and get back to you. Also agree CNC may not be an option due to wing close to orig. thickness - when I fit a Mk2 surround in a car I can better visualise clearance, but if CNC might be an option it would need to be 'thicker' to hold up to the machining. Bar stock is pretty pricy these days so materials cost may be an eye opener as well. My thinking is the most resonable cost option would be if we could find someone, somehow to do stamp or roll brass like original (> Austin Healer : agree brass would be easier if stamped or rolled)

I must confess that I have not put as much time as would have liked into this, November has been nuts. Input from everyone has been great and the more suggestions, comments the better. I did reach out to Kindigit and response was very quick and professional but basically they were unable to assist and had no referal recommendations. If anyone has a connection/contact at Kindigit (or any other referals) that might open more doors than me I did get a nice original Mk2 upper grill surround and my next two projects ar a) test fit on a car (hoping to find one that has not had any front end repair/panel replacement work which I do not have myself), then b) find a local 3D scanning company to scan locally (hoping this cost is resonable enough do do same with earlier Mk1 style for comparison). I still have not meet with the 3D printer contact yet (mostly my scheduling problems this month) but with 3D data I have been told he can print it and I am open to seeing what that would look like and who knows, it may turn out to be a good repo solution - better than nothing).

Front end body work : ah, this is an interestng parallel to Warren's comment about original car builds. I have two cars, both have had some sort of front surround, valance shelf, and/or fender repairs in the past - done well, look great BUT I can tell minor differences when fitting Rick's SS repo early Mk1 style upper grill surround on each car (great job Rick, thank you). My point, between past body repairs and possible build differences when new - I would expect the potential for fitment challanges of any upper grill surround (early or Mk2 style) on some cars. I.e. it will fit on an original undamaged car, but may require some tweaks/mod on any car having previous body work. Body work is an art and FYI back the 70's and 80's when these cars could be found for sale for less than 5k - insurance companies did not spend big $ (or often hire high qualty fabricators aka artist's) to repair front end damage on Sunbeam sports cars in a body shop world my guess. I have seen may Tiger's with measurement differeces at the front grill/surround area. Today's world their are craftsmen and metal fabrication wizzards that can do true quality/magic work (getting harder to find, usually $, and availabilty becoming a challenge) .. but NOS repair panels/fenders are almost impossible to find repo panels are not perfect (some good, some not as much), used panels I have seen all kinds of Frankenstin efforts using (both good and bad), etc. also limit the qualtiy and success of their finiished repairs.

> 65beam : I agree, nothing wrong with the original grill surround and I have always loved the LeMans large grate style grill - assume a designer changed the grill surround because 'they could'

On their website, Kindigit has a form where you can pitch your project to them for the show. I proposed them doing a stainless exhaust system on my MK I. I thought the novelty of working on a Tiger was worth the chance. They do absolutely amazing exhausts and on the show they have had cars in for small jobs rather than complete builds. They fabbed some custom side vents for an Austin Healy Sprite on one episode. Needless to say, I'm still waiting to hear back from them.

I should have pointed out that I have Tri-Y headers and want a 2 1/2" system. A little bit custom, just like they do it.
