Hi All

If any of you have a car (late Mk1/early Mk1a if I recall correctly) with the Sunbeam 260 fender badges, I would appreciate a photo of the badge...straight on close up. Just post it here.

Thanks and wishing everybody a Happy Thanksgiving.

Also a special note to those who live in the vicinity of the ongoing fires...we pray you and yours are safe and remain so.

Thanks again.

Thanks. Need a shot of the emblem in the chrome surround. Hoping somebody has a car with this style emblem and can run out to the garage and take a quick photo.

Thanks, but that is not the one. Most of the Mk1’s have the badge you sent. On late Mk1’s and early Mk1a’s they used a badge that said SUNBEAM 260. Not many cars got them, I think it was the early crossover cars. They finally went to SUNBEAM V8. I am just trying to get a photo of each.

Jim,

Have you got a shot of a sunbeam 260 badge?
The PBF 260 were on the MKI and cross body cars, Alpine 260 on the LRO and eu cars, mkia and mkii had the Sunbeam V8. You are thinking that Sunbeam 260 badges were on very late mki cross body and maybe very early round boot MKIA at start of Chrysler take over?

Michael

I did not have a photo of the SUNBEAM 260 badge that was why I was asking...BUT I just found a photo in my latest internet search. See below.

According to the BON, p.160 these badges were on the last Mk1 cars, 9473101-3767. Perhaps the early Mk1a's also, although the BON is not clear on that.

For all those that checked their cars...THANKS.

Jim that photo is a repro badge for sure, not a vac chrome finish on it.

The computer files i did would allow you to cheaply have a sunbeam 260 badge cut on a computer cutter, but if you vacuum chrome it the finish wont be smooth enough for a mirror reflection it would come out more frosted silver

Michael

Thanks. I am not trying to reproduce the badge. I simply want an accurate photo of an original badge.

In view of what Michaels says about the finish of the pictured badge and the likelihood it is a repro...anybody with a photo of an original.

Jim

Some Input

Just to add some more odd input: Our Ole' MK1A #78 came with PBF 260 which I changed to the Sun V-8 with the immediate 289 upgrade. The PBF 260 badges are still here in a box (somewhere?).

in Castro Valley makes some exquisite badges he is in your roster on Foothill blvd. Dolphin Graphics. He also make the better then NOS Rootes side badges. I can't remember his user name here. Sorry it's tough enough to remember real names. Luckily he sent me a business card now where's my Rolodex ;)

Rootes Group Parts Book

I looked into my copy of the 260/289 Parts Supplement Book by Rootes. My copy was issued after Rootes Group was under Mopar (and this is important, as you will see). Attached is a shot of part the page listing what is termed Insert - motif.

Note that only three are listed.
2234516 - Insert-Motif, front wing (fender) and Trunk lid "Sunbeam 260"

2231536 - Insert-Motif, front wing (Fender) U.S.A. and Canada

2235726 - Insert-Motif, front wing (Fender)----------("V8")

Since 2231536 is labeled for "U.S.A. and Canada" and 2234516 is not, I am wondering if the Sunbeam 260 motif was for non North America cars. Next, note that none of the motifs listed shows the "Powered By Ford 260". Since the parts book was published during Mopar's ownership, perhaps they were a little touchy about having "Ford" appear in their book. So I believe 2231536 is the "Powered By Ford 260" motif. Does anyone know if the "Sunbeam 260" motif was used on cars sold in North America?

I am pretty sure you are correct. In searching for more info on this topic I have come across threads on various forums that talk about the Sunbeam 260 badges being used for UK spec cars. It is also noteworthy that the many of the late 947 cars were destined for the UK and bear the HRO suffix.

Thanks

One of the old Admin's here Steve has an Alpine 260 He can be seen on the Darkside I mean Fakebook. I think he even used an Avatar of the motif here.As I recall he had one on his car. Most all of the Avatar's went bye bye in the server change :(

SUNBEAM V8 Badge

More "evidence" that the production line may at times have "used what they had", although this mindset often raises the hackles of (some) in guru land...

Attached is the "V8" badge from:

B382000428

As dad is gone it is simply impossible to have irrefutable, undeniable proof that this badge was always on the car. unless you lived with him....

I know the car was registered in 1967, he hadn't pulled the 260 yet (he'd hardly even driven it, as it was garaged while he was bouncing between CA and Vietnam over a few years) and that this picture was taken at the Presidio not long after acquisition, wearing this badge.

Now that said.... could one even BUY a replacement badge in the 1967/1968 timeframe? Alternatively, I CAN say with certainty that he removed the badge prior to repaint (yellow) in early 1970's and that the close up shown here is after we painted body back to original and not to be confused with a period picture...

Care to point out two or more other "MKIA crossover" anomalies which may be seen in this pic?
