Sunbeams will be well represented at this year's Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion. Both Tigers and Alpines will be racing Saturday. Four Tigers will be racing in the 1963-1966 GT Class, over 2500 cc. CAT President Buck Triple (it's really Claudia's car) will have John Morton running his 64 Tiger, and Tom Sakai will be in his 1965, number 65 Tiger. Lorraine Gruys will be present in her 65 Tiger as well, and all the way from the UK, Gordon England will be driving the ex-Dick Barker Le Mans Coupe, now owned by the Gruys. I will be racing my Sebring Alpine in the smallbore class, and also CAT members Allen Denson and Stephen Sorenson will be racing int the Trans-Am class. Tiger owners Chad Raynal and Dave Stone (owner of the Hollywood Sports Car) are in the IMSA class. Hope to see you there.

Monterey Pre Reunion

All the Tigers survived the Pre Reunion weekend in good shape.

In the featured race on Sunday, John Morton started at the rear of the 35 car grid (due to a broken rocker arm during the Saturday qualifying race) and drove the Sports Car Forum through the pack to an 8th place finish. Tom Sakai withdrew due to pesky electrical problem. Gordon England finished 25th in the Le Mans Coupe while Lorraine Gruys came in at 29th.

Favorite Terry Gough also had a mechanical problem which caused him to drop out while leading the race. Tommy Steuer won the race in a GT 350.

Morton showed flashes of speed several times during the weekend. He was 6th quickest in the Saturday practice session and 3rd quick during Sunday's warm-up. During Sunday's race, he and one Cobra were consistently the fastest (193 Kph) on the radar gun when passing the Start/Finish line on the main straight. Hopefully the rocker arm problem is solved and he'll be able to cut loose during next weekend's Monterey Reunion.

Tigers are scheduled to practice Thursday and Friday at 9:15 AM. They have a qualifying race on Saturday morning that will set the grid for their main race Saturday afternoon. The Tigers do not go on track on Sunday.

For those attending the races, the Tiger pits are "F" aisle, spaces 12 through 18.

Sorry to hear more troubles (especially after the bad run last year with the ignition and then john's incident) Good to hear once sorted the car was quick, are we looking at a top 4 finish perhaps?


What car is Lorraine Gruys racing? and Number 55 isnt having a run?
