Nationally, the Sunbeam clubs have been discussing reviving SUNI in September of 2021 at Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville Resort on the Lake of the Ozarks, about 120 miles SE of Kansas City.

Many of you who are club members will be receiving email surveys soon asking whether you may be interested in attending. Please complete the survey ASAP so we can judge whether there's enough interest to host such an event.

thanks,

not so budget! the map shows $151 avg for hotels in area

I'm sorry I had to share a LOL moment in life.

Easy survey great job. If you did not get an email contact any Admin.

PS: I also enjoyed that the Tightwad Convenience Store opened just outside "town limits." Probably a lower cost property. ;-)

To get this thread back on track from the autobiography diversion, the Survey Letter has now been sent to the 1100 members of TEAE and CAT. Those letters going to Alpine or STOA club members should be emailed soon.

Regardless whether you're interested or not interested in the event, please fill out and submit the one minute survey.

This will really help us learn the interest that's out there. It will guide our decision whether or not to proceed setting up this event and, if we proceed, the size needed to accommodate those planning to attend. (We don't want to get hit with financial penalties for low attendance nor do we want to size it too small and then turn people away.) That's why your opinion is so important.

thanks,

Preliminary Survey Results

If you haven't replied to the Survey please do so asap even if you have absolutely zero interest in attending the event. We need to get feedback from everyone! The Survey ends in two weeks.

The first preliminary results are in. Hundreds have already replied and the majority have indicated they'd like to attend the proposed SUNI event in 2021.

Many thanks to those of you who have already replied. Your feedback will help us learn on the type event you want.

ps Since the Survey is rather anonymous it would help me if CAT members who are interested in attending would identify yourself in the comment section so I can keep you appraised of any developments.

Survey Says...

The survey about a potential SUNI in June of 2021 has closed.

The final tally is in.

375 nationwide responded to the survey and about half were very interested in attending the proposed SUNI event and said they were either ready to sign up or pencil it into their calendars.

Just noticed that Post #1 on this thread mentioned the SUNI possibility for Sept. 2021, and the last post says June. 2021. Which one of these months are we talking about? I know this is quite a way away, and things change, but for me such a trip would take lots of planning.

Admin note: the survey discussed the earlier date but the Resort said no way to that and added they could accommodate the event in Sept 2021. The dates will be September 13-17, 2021.

Like drop shipping all my spare parts along the route, begging poor relations for room and board, making sure I have hot water for my Cup O' Noodles. May have to have better tires than these $40.00 cheapies. Probably should think about a spare tire that holds air. Lots and lots to think about for a 35-3600 mile jaunt. And the way this thing leaks, a case of oil maybe.

Thanks

Other plans

I know the Austin-Healey guys have gone off to Deadwood some of them hired somebody to take their cars their bang done.
Being in the cup of noodles club and thinking right along your line there's the plan b.
The guys in England hire a Chase truck to carry parts and everything they can't carry. I don't recall if they had a trailer for can't fix on the road cars. You can read this and some of their old threads on STOC.

I'm hoping that a little trial run toTigers United in Big Bear can be done.
Probably could save some dough with a Airbnb, I'm sure one with a hotplate is available and maybe a garage a good way to save some dough even more if pack in meals.

In a past Tiger United (Grants Pass) event we used our enclosed race car trailer (which has tools for most any Tiger situation) to carry a street car. The idea was if somebody broke we could help or at worst we could unload the street Tiger and drive it to the event while placing the broken kitty in the trailer for the trip to the event. Never needed it.

However after the last Santa Maria TU we did rent a U-haul open trailer to pull a broken Tiger south.

In this day of 100 mile free towing, that sort of help is becoming unnecessary. But it's always reassuring to have somebody like Dan Walters close by.

I like the AAA towing as I’am 130 miles away. I like the Dan Walters fixing the car even better. Cheers- Doug

Actually on a trip like this, I don't know which would break down first my 52 year old car, or my 73 year old body. LOL
Anyway, thanks for the info.
And yes, Big Bear will be a nice trial for my Alpine next year.

On our 4700 mile Tiger trip a few weeks ago it was my 71 year old body and not the 53 year old car that had a boo-boo. (I had previously never conceived of a need for driving gloves before that trip.)

However the Tiger trip was shockingly comfortable. I was prepared for the worst but was amazed how nice we felt even in temps over 100 degrees. (We had done a few things in preparation that made the trip much more enjoyable.)

Trip preparation for a trip like that would make for interesting reading. Were there any things you didn't prepare for that you now feel that you should have? And I find that any trip farther than the grocery store, I'm wearing gloves. I'm running a stock steering wheel, and I have added a cover, but they're still pretty small and needs a pretty firm grip.

Jim,

We did a lot of trip prep including replacing belts and hoses. I also tried out a lot of things based on lessons learned on other long Tiger trips we've taken.

Some ideas worked out great and some were total duds. We'll be sharing some of this information in Tiger Tales and at some point on this Forum. The grill vent scoops we cobbled together and used on this trip made a huge difference to our comfort.

In period a few rapiers and Tigers used cowled vent covers, assume on the monster tiger they cut holes in the scuttle similar to what later sv alpines would have.

Ofcourse the most famous cowl vents must be the ferrari 250gto ones.

SUNI Sept 2021

We're still shooting for a SUNI in mid-September of next year. Rosemary Smith and Mike Jones have already accepted our invitations.
However the Osage Beach venue didn't work out. Some had complained about room rates but more importantly we could not secure an autocross site.

We are currently looking at a venue with less expensive rooms much closer to Kansas City. Can you smell the BBQ?
We're planning for 200 persons and 100 Rootes vehicles. 5 days, Monday through Friday.

We'll make an announcement as soon as we get things firmed up.

Buck
