I broke the black plastic thingy on my "panel" light switch, I have a spare "blower" switch that looks identical on the back-----can I use this for the panel lights? Both are 3 position switches. Thanks.

If the switching is the same... certainly. Just check the contacts with a multimeter to be sure.

Ditto

I mix & match the 2 basic switches all the time. The electricity doesn't seem to care how it gets from point A to point B . . . . . . .

IIRC, the last time I ordered a switch from Rick, all he needed to know was 2 position or 3 position.

FYI the 3 position panel switch has a resistor clipped to the outside bottom (looks like a rectangular metal plate). I do not know if the blower switch is the same, I don't believe it is, but you may want to check. When the innards of my panel switch broke, I went to my local British car shop and he let me rummage through his old broken Lucas switches and then just gave me 3 or 4 to play with. I was able to find the small spring and part that I needed and rebuilt the switch myself....worth a try....just a thought.

Resistor only in panel switch.

I just rewired my '66 1A and the way I understand it is that the resistor in the panel switch is for dimmer panel/dash lights in that middle position. The blower switch sends full current at either second or third position. The blower motor has it's own resister for the lower speed.

Maybe that's why the middle postion does not work, I only have the panel lights come on in the "bright" position (lower). That's ok since I can barely see the dimmer (middle) postion as it was.

(lower) position? My switches are all off when they are down....Does that mean I have them upside down???

yes.. you are upside down.. toggle down for on... my car was like that when i got it..

then again.. the indicator lights in the tail lights were at the bottom too! car must have known it was destined to come "down under" :p

I put my brake lights up top because I think they would be easier to see and therefore be safer for me.
