Tiger hardtop parts

The dreaded footprint maker. I have some of both of the metal pieces shown. I can't remember which of the 5 tops I have had the two hole ones. Pretty sure that the two or three tops that weren't swiss cheese like had the drain holes. But they also had a 3" small channel similar to the shape of the U shape on the front header bow under the corner pads. I left the pieces off on Rick of SS recommendation.

That would likely work, and it wouldn't be seen while top is on the car. However, if you don't have the original parts, I'd be inclined to duplicate what the factory did back then. I'm sure they had their reasons for doing it that way. It looks like it would be an easy part to cut and fabricate with a cheap Harbor Freight sheet metal brake in a vice out of some 16 or 18 gauge metal. I could measure and draw out mine if you want.
 
I would suspect the shaped recess and the shaped bracket is to assist stopping the seal defecting to much laterally as it has a void and in cornering and general driving the metal bracket the length of it would help limit the movement of the top.
 
There are folks who know more about the hardtops than I do, but I do know that there were two versions of the hardtops for Series 3 and later Alpines and all Tigers - an earlier version and a later version. Take a look at the Rootes Alpine Parts manual, Section YX, to see all the differences between the two versions. One of the differences is what you call the corner pad brackets and Rootes called the Retainer plate. I believe the seals for each version of bracket does not work for the other.
 
Went to the Rootes Alpine Parts manual, Section YX and I can see two different rear body seals and also two different
retaining plates looks like I bought 2 retaining plates that don't fit I guess I'll make the right ones looks pretty simple.
Ken I can't see the outside edge of your retaining plate does that side also have a turned up lip like the inside side.

Things are moving along with my hardtop got the roof on and primed, I need to get the sound deafening material what's everyone been using, how thick and did you glue it on. As always Thanks

3/8" OR 1/2" felt works great. 3M fabric spray adhesive.
 
Another hardtop question have a new headliner but not sure if I have everything to install it I know gluing is involved but is there a strip I'm missing in the front? This is all I have Thanks

There is a curved metal strip that clamps the fabric at the front. It is retained with rivets or screws, and has some bumps/tabs that help locate it and grab the fabric where the small rectangular hole is in the header. I don't think I have a picture of mine, but will look.

The metal strip and four "bows" hold the fabric up and forward. There are special fabric clips for the sides and rear, although many prefer to contact glue the sides and rear in spots for assembly. Someone here may have a photo of the metal strip. Folding the forward fabric over the contours of the strip to get the correct exposure takes patience & careful measuring. Then there is steaming out the wrinkles.
 
No lie on the steaming out wrinkles. Do that before you hand it off to an install guy...
 
Thanks I thought I saw a video that mentioned a metal strip but never saw one hopefully someone has a picture will have to sorurce one or make one. Will be doing the install myself after paint.
