My thoughts as well

Were my she's had a lot of work done. I don't usually look at Hemmings as to me it's always been the place to look for cars that really were in the like to sell not need to sell . I actually suggested the ad to a inspector over the phone funny, how the same things come to mind.

The Ontario owners were members of our old Ontario Sunbeam Tiger Owners Club in the 80's and they happened to move beside one of my friends in Keswick. I looked at the Tiger at the time, and they had repainted it a number of years earlier. Despite the cosmetic fix, it looked too scary to touch as there appeared to be a lot of bondo and previous rust issues that I thought had been covered up. If I'm not mixing it up with another car, some of the frame repair involved a bunch of angle iron. I was hoping to buy the car strictly for the trim and parts some day as I don't think they drove it for many years and thought it would eventually rust away, but never got back there to make them an offer. I see it was sold in 2000. This new owner has proved me correct, as he has done an incredible amount of work to rebuild the body. It looks like he has done a thorough job. The price doesn't seem to be out of line, especially as I would hate to guess how many hours went into this vehicle during the restoration, and what the asking price, less vehicle cost, would work out to per hour....

Red Engine???

In the Hemmings ad, the seller wrote "If you know some history of these car Canada you will know that some engines were painted red, this is one of them". I have never heard of this. The 289 engines were all supplied painted by Ford to the U.K., where they were installed in the cars. How would the folks in the U.K. have any idea about which car rolling down the assembly line would wind up going to Canada? Or was there some legal issue about selling cars with blue engines in Canada? If so, wouldn't all later Tigers have red engines? Can someone explain to me about the red Canadian engines? Thanks!

David, I think the red engine Tigers were intended for Communist countries but somehow ended up in Canada- I'll have to check my BON ;)

What's on the Air Filter Housing?

Did they have a white maple leaf painted on the air filter housing top? (Please do not take my comment as making fun of the Canadian flag - I love Canada. Just making following behind hottigr's lead.)

Bon Chance

Not that I have any desire to wander up to Quebec this time of year, BUT, would suggest a very close inspection by a knowledgeable Tiger guy/gal. The price is a bit low (opinion) so a hands on poking would be appropriate.

Ford Red Engine

I doubt engine came red , looking at the picture of the car (Supplied )how was the car in 2000 whe he bought it , there is lot of red overspray , as for the car , Its was real MKII in 2000 when he bought it , according to the 350+ picture of the restoration ,We should say he brought back the car from the grave , whithout using an alpine body . !!!! Not sure if it would pass TAC , at least he has the pictures of the restoration , that could help .!!!

Ps. I bought my MKII wheel well molding from him in 2001 ( 250.00$) , he replace is by better one .!!!!

Red bloc

That Explains It

Thanks for explaining about these red-engined Canadian Tigers! Your explanation makes sense.

I thought red blocks only came if you ordered a black mkii with contrasting red interior so rootes did a red block and also red trunk false floor and side panels to make it consistent.

The blue blocks on mkii were repainted Chrysler blue over old ford blue in deference to rootes parent company. :p

* NOTE: ALL THE ABOVE IS JOKING MISINFORMATION

It must have cost them lots of money to strip the Ford hallmark aluminum decal on the chromed valve covers!

*Please see the NOTE above.

I had two; both were blue blocks. I have never seen an original car with a red block

sale

This used to be a MK 2. I wonder what color engine was in this body before it was converted back to an alpine.

I know this is not Tiger however I bought a short 5 bolt 289 engine from a guy that bought a container of US parts to Australia. The Block was red with only bare metal under it. I do not know what car it came from but the block was red. It is now ford blue.

Buck,
Didn't Dougie ever tell you about this conversion? This dates way back to 1994.
