Is flat black behind the chrome strip and along the sides and top of the "mouth"the best route on a re-paint?

Best

So what is the best, over restored satin black sprayed or period correct brushed. Going to do the hinges that are visible when hood is closed through the mouth opening?

color

The hinges should be roughly half black which covers the area that can be seen with the hood closed.

Here are a couple of photos of the grill mouth and hinges. Photo angle on the hinges is not the best, but you get the idea.

Ah hah

Wow. Didn’t know about the hinges. But I don’t like it enough to go that far. :D

Black in the opening and body color hinges for me. The next owner can slap some paint on the hinges if desired!

Thanks all for the great info.

Depends

On body color as some may say. I have an original paint 106 Alpine that isn't brush painted on the lower section of the hinges, now there's the thought as it really isn't needed on a code 1 car either. This prompts the question with undercoating being applied with a brush or a broom as I read someplace ;) From the looks of the crusted undercoating this appears to have been a smaller type corn whisk broom ,something the Fuller brush man probably sold.
