I have finally purchased my 15x6 / 15 x 7 wheels. Anyone have recommendations on a good street tires (205x50 front / 225x50 back)?

Thanks again in advance

I am very happy with the Toyo Proxes RA1 I have on the back. They stick very well.

Where did you get your wheels and what kind are they?

Thanks for the reply. I bought PS Vintage Wheels S/C style wheels. They have the look of Halibrands.

Chris,
I reckon if you asked ten folks on their choice of tire you would get ten different responses.

For Muscle and Pony cars I use B.F Goodrich raised white letter

For ferrin' cars I like Vredestein Sprint Classic.

You may find 225 tyres are too wide and will rub. I don't now for sure, but a
7" wide rim is max width on a Tiger without mod's. I have the same size rims for my car, but not yet fitted. I have 205 rear and 195 for the front. For handling you should match tread width with rim width.

I am running the same wh/tire combo as you are (205/225)--no rub issues. Try Discount Tire--they have good prices.

Maybe the the better question is:

What tire size is recommended for 15x6 w/3.75"BS front and 15x7 w/4"BS rear?

I have read an article where someone has run 195x55. Also seen those running 205x50 front and 225x50 rear.

Thanks everyone!

Chris,

I guess it depends what you want from the tyre.. and also what your concerns are.

If you are worried about touching the body.. remember, the width vs aspect ratio.. you can go for a wider tyre to some extent if you go a lower profile.. you can run a higher profile if you have a slimmer tyre.. there is a cross over point where the width vs overall diameter wont cancel this out. You want to keep within a certain rolling radius.. that way the tyre is less likely to contact on lock on the front.

I know guys running 205x55's on the front.. but they are 13" wheels.. so not an issue. Ona 15x6 on the front i would be guessing that 195x55 would be getting about as large as you would want to try.. Is your car stock ride height, has the valence been trimmed or the lips rolled?

On those 15x6" and 15x7" wheels, I personally would run 175/65R15's front with 205/55R15's rear or 185/60R15's front with 225/50R15's on the rear. They are all about 24" in diameter and this is about the tallest tire that I would want to run on a Tiger. You should run the same diameter tires on the front and rear because the side walls will be the same height/thickness and they will look better. The 185/60R15's on the front might cause you some clearance problems so you could even go with a 175/65R15 front and 225/50R15 rear combination. These specific tire & wheel size combinations should even out the trac difference between the front and rear axles and improve the car's exterior appearance. A little wider tire on the rear would also help to reduce the Tiger's oversteer tendency somewhat and a narrower tire on the front would make the steering a little easier (and reduce some of the stress on the fragile front suspension parts that are known to fail, because of this I would personally stick with the 65's).

Chris, I see you are in Tulsa, OK. I am assuming there is a hot rod/street rod club in the area. Get in touch with these guys and find out where they are getting the tire and wheel work done for the custom cars. The good shops specializing in custom wheel and tire fitment should have a wheel/tire fitment tool. The good tools look like some sort of calibrated cake mixer tool. This tool will allow the user to set rim width, back spacing, rim diameter, and then mount the tool on the hub. After all is set an actual tire is mounted in the tool and you can see first hand how it fits, or does not fit, all without actually purchasing a tire or wheel. When all this fitment is complete you will have information on exact wheel dimentions and exact tire dimentions to fit your vehicle. Good luck.
