Worth the trip
Thought I'd chime in with a quick one here.
First time attendance to a TU for my partner and I and it was well worth the trip. I can second the comments made by David, Bruce, Warren et al and think that David's images captured the scenery and cars really well. Sneeze or cough whilst viewing for a pollen-like experience.
As already mentioned, the autocross venue was remarkable, as was the drive up into the Sierra to get there. Brave souls who took it on in my esteem - that accellerate into the final figure 8 looked as though the drivers were about to tip off the edge of a cliff!
The rally took us through some areas of Tahoe and surrounds that there is no way we would have seen otherwise - back streets of the South Lake area, views from the Summit, winding single lanes with whoop-de-doos through the parks, a blast across the desert floor and a great climb and descent (cresting 8000ft) to finish off. Great challenge for car and team alike.
Concours was a good show though it would have been great to have seen a few more attendees. It had some star pulling power with a beautiful MKII, Dana's barbed wire grilled "Chalker", Dale A's and Beau's stunning modified versions and others whose owners names I can't recall but who were all gracious enough to engage. The turnout for Stock Class was a treat.
The best part of course as mentioned in prior posts was meeting new people and socialising. We made some great friends, enjoyed dinners, drives and laughs. Jo and I may have received a nod for farthest afield attendees, but kudos to RW and Tonya for driving from Arkansas! and to Don and Nancy from near San Diego in their 1 owner, via the edge of Death Valley! Phew - what an effort this time of year!
Finally, a special mention to Bill Martin for loaning me his MK1 for the event. This left Bill without a drive and about all I was able to offer in return was an unwipeable grin and a noisy diff. Absolutely first class Bill - I can't thank you enough.
Thanks to all for arranging, hosting and introducing and for being all so generous with your hospitality. We'll strive to be back for next year's event.
Cheers, Tom and Jo
