Where is there a stainless steel part on a Tiger?

Micheal, and Randy get a 48 hour handicap ; )

Are you talking about the windshield, hardtop, and side stripe trim pieces or a secret bolt somewhere?

Yes clues allowed

I thought it was all pot metal. I've always had a cheap VW convertible and a bunch of it's specific parts are chromed brass.
The windshield garnish is too easy but yes how about a smaller one.

Really great

Brian those are a few more. I'm thinking that I wish some parts were made out of S.S. like the dovetail door latch gpodies.

todays trivia question

Front grill, lower finisher front grill area, front grill surround, MKIA door support/retainer piece, window washer cone on pump that fits into dash,

MK II wheel well arches, door sill moulding,

questions

Were original eye brow mouldings stainless? They are a lot more flexible than the stainless now being made.

question

I dont believe the originals were stainless as they were a chromed peice.

I have had a couple eyebrows replated and the shop in Pa. that we use said they thought they were made of thin brass. A magnet won't stick to an original.

Zinc

The headlight rings or doors or eyebrows it w/e one chooses to call them melt easily. I tried to straighten up one with a propane torch not yellow brass, oops:)

The eyebrow moulding is the upper grill trim piece. Repros (part # ET97 from SS) are steel. They attract a magnet.

Names

Lots of different names for parts that are in Colonial English. I should've picked weekly or monthly not Today's , my bad.
Nobody has found the part.

Stainless

Warren, is this part your referring to on Mkl ‘s, MklA’s and Mkll’s?

Maybe Not

I can't say what the original or SS eyebrow pieces are made of, since I own a MkII. But not all stainless steels are the same. There are some grades of stainless that are magnetic, such as the 400 series. They have a higher carbon content (what most people think of as regular steel is called "carbon steel" to differentiate it from other steel alloys) for increased strength, but lower corrosion resistance. And are magnetic. It is the 300 series of stainless steel that is not magnetic. So the SS eyebrows might be made of stainless steel and still attract a magnet.

All Tiger's

I'm not a know it all. This is a content builder. Thanks to all for your comments. I like the Trivia question at Tigers United, sure I like some better than others. Questions like how many trim holes are on a MK1 or 1A not so much.
I was suprised to find the part on something that I've touched less than 6 times in the 4 years I've had my second car.

Stainless

Hi David, speaking of the Mkll grille surround, I know that the one on my car is brass because I had to have it rechromed, but I have talked to a restorer that has restored several Mkll’s and some Mkll grille surrounds were made of steel and chromed also which would make the magnet stick. As far as I know, there are no “stainless” Mkll grille surrounds. The wheel arches are definitely magnetic stainless.

I have two originals still in their unopened bags. I have to make the journey to Pa. to drop off a series 2 alpine windshield frame for replating so I'll take one of the original eye brows and have them tell me what it's made of. We're starting work on Harrington #3 soon so it needs plated before it's used. FYI, the early Alpine frames are brass.

Wait, there's more . . .

The eyebrow moulding is the upper grill trim piece. Repros (part # ET97 from SS) are steel. They attract a magnet.

They also have disappointing shaping wrinkles in the arched corners. We've had to rework them. I prefer finding an original and having our high-end chrome guys rescue them. Not cheap, but it's right out in front & showing . . .Just sayin'
