Bill Martin posted on the Tigers email list that Tom McDaniel passed away from a heart attack. Tom was an auto-x king for many years, and drove his Tiger everywhere...He'll be missed.
 
I met Tom via Tigers in 1994, then lost track as my Tiger was pulled off the road, I went vintage racing etc. When I started autocrossing seriously in 2005, we rekindled a friendship via SCCA National events (Tours/Pros/Nationals). I heard about this last night and spoke to his SCCA co-driver today at length, who confirmed that Tom had suffered a fatal heart attack. Such a sad deal...

He was always a good friend in the paddock, lots of fun to trade barbs with, encouraging me to do well...just one of the guys I'd always end up hanging out with for at least a portion of the weekend. I, and the rest of the Tiger and autocross communities, will certainly miss him, to say nothing of his family and loved ones. :(

Such sad news! Tom was truly one of the "Good Guys"! He usually competed well for Top Time of the Day at the Tiger or Sunbeam meets, a fast, smooth driver!
 
Tom is one of the guys I would always look for to hang out with at Tiger events. Being an ex-cop, he had a funny sense of humor. I was showing him the Tiger Power cereal box I created (Kellogg's). I had cut out a picture of my car and pasted it over the kids that were pictured on the cereal box with Tony the Tiger, so, all that was left was Tony and my car. When I told Tom what I had done to create the piece, Tom asked me, "What did you do with the kids?" It was pretty funny...
