I am not sure if algernorm on ebay is one of us or not. He has a tool set on ebay. If you are bidding on that set please note that the seller did not indicate that the spark plug tool is incorrect and also that it is a 1/2 inch vs the original 3/8 tool. The spark plug wrench is the most difficult part to find. The bag and tools including the lucas tool are correct. Missing the yellow tire valve tool. I am just trying to protect the buyer from a surprise. Lee

I for one appreciate you keeping the seller honest. Thanks - Doug

eBay Alias

He has 2 ebay accounts as I recall which is a pretty common shell game available to users of the ePay system. We have both bought parts from Him(s) in our early gotta have it nube days. A fellow member chatted me up and was a welcome break to the cabin fever and suggested a Who's Who on eBay thread when we were beating up a not so commonly known eBay user who specializes in Sunbeam rustiness and crossover Ford parts. eBay seller feedback what a crock.

Good post bob. There are two hubcap tools thin and thick. Rick sells one NOS. Someday I will do my how to put a tool set together for cheap except the bag thread. All of the tools in that auction are easily available on Ebay with the exception of the tool roll. I can put a complete set together for about $200. I am still looking for a tool roll for my set. I am going to list a 1/2 tommy bar on ebay to show the difference. Under seller leepear

e bay

the seller is a long time sunbeam owner and has been around for several decades. don't jump to conclusions because he now uses a different name on e bay. privacy and other things lead to changes we may not want to do but has to be done. this seller had a real good reason that demanded the change and knowing him for a long time and knowing what happened I can understand. this is another case of some not knowing all the facts. i can tell you what happens when someone steals your identity at a united and goes on a shopping spree in Canada without my knowledge. things happen in the real world.

Not Jumping

To any conclusions. The name Alger Norm is a bit of a poke that really doesn't seem to be needed.
I talked to him more than once. I also have received other press reports from a local member and that's enough for me to pass on his items.
I wonder if/when he will have a Tiger for sale, cause I'd pass on that too:D

There is an economy of info isn't there.

The title says...

Sunbeam Tiger Tool Kit Mk2. complete kit Rare Rootes Accessory

..and he does mention what it says on the spark plug wrench but he doesn't mention that it is the wrong one and has no business being in a Tiger tool kit.
No mention of the socket being wrong either.

It wasn't until he was prompted that he offered to swap it but we don't know what with.

As already mentioned, these 2 items are where the money is.
Apart from the pouch, the rest can be got for small change.

It doesn't come across as an honest and above board sale does it.
He hasn't told any lies but he has been economical with the truth.
If someone had made the assumption that all was correct and had bid $3000, would he have taken it?

If it was a $20 part I probably wouldn't give a shit, but it isn't and there is the potential for someone to get seriously burned here.

We are all aware that the is MK2 Tiger 'new money' kicking about and people who are keen to spend it.

Is it our job to protect there noobs?
I don't know but it seems that someone needs to.

If caveat emptor was ever needed, it is here.

Apologies if I have pissed anyone off.

I just wonder why so many can be so critical because they assume that someone is doing something dishonest. I know of a person that has listed sunbeam parts on e bay, sold them and took the buyers money. then contacts the buyer and says he is not going to ship all of the items because some of it is junk. my opinion is that the seller had no idea why the buyer bought it so don't tell the buyer what he is going to get after taking the buyers money. the seller must have thought his opinion was the only one that mattered so that makes him right. yet that seller will continue to bash others for doing something he thinks is wrong. it appears that common sense never comes into play for some, they just assume.

I can't speak for other but my only concern is that someone doesn't get screwed.

You sound like you have a story you want to tell Bob.

HPNY btw. :)

I think one of the CAT internet gods should close this thread. All I was doing was trying to point out something so that one of our members wouldn't bid crazy money on a tool set thinking they bought a complete tool set. I don't really have any interest in saving the world or the rest of the ebay world.

I don't know the seller and if he was one of us, I would assume he would read the post and put a note in the ad to make sure the buyer was aware of the issue. EBay is the free enterprise system. I pay 10% to sell my stuff to strangers all over the world.

If someone wanted a tool set, this is clearly a mostly correct tool set. They don't come up very often that complete. The roll is worth 400 the tools in that condition 400+ with the replica spark plug wrench. A good buy at todays market for 800-1000 bad buy for 2000 but it is ebay. I think one of our sellers has sold tools without the spark plug wrench or the bag for as much as 600ish. Let the market do its thing, I won't even know the buyer of that tool set. This post was not meant to bash anyone. Lee

This seller is dishonest at best. A potential bidder asked him if this is the correct tool kit for a MKII and he replied it was and submitted a URL to verify the tool kit.

If you look at the URL the spark plug socket and handle are clearly incorrect. I pointed it out to the seller that what he included in the auction is wrong. The seller replied that he would substitute another socket set also marked "Britool" which is the marking on the set in his auction.

If he was honest he would say the socket and handle are incorrect instead of trying to gloss over that fact.

As one of the newby's mentioned earlier, I would prefer to know what I am preparing to spend my money on. Sometimes I guess its better to have something rather than nothing, but in this particular case I don't think so. The tools themselves, as originally included in the purchase of the car, are marginal at best so the only reason to purchase would be for correctness or to complete a set. I am thankful that there are people who have greater knowledge than myself because it allows me to learn what is correct and not. I certainly will not cast an opinion as to whether the seller is being totally truthful or is possibly misinformed. All I'm saying is I'm glad there are knowledgeable people out there who know the difference and willing to share their expertise.

A buyer should do his due diligence before paying lots of $$$$ for incorrect parts. Remove the Sunbeam Tiger reference and the socket and bar are worth $5.00.

if the pieces have the right numbers then the value is high. since there are very few of the original pieces floating around a good replacement does complete the kit by giving you a tool that is very similar and correct looking. that gives you a complete kit. I can also say that judges don't bother to check each tool for correctness when judging trunks. there were very few cars at SUNI that even had tool kits. the same at uniteds. I didn't complain when I bought valve stem removers on e bay that were bought from a jag parts house. even though slightly incorrect they still do the job. this seller has been around a lot longer than most of you and still doing his thing. why fault people for making an effort.

Concourse info also in reply

If you were not at the STOA meet in Bay area like I was, the minutia will be a leveling factor even to the point of a corrected clock that was previously positive earthed.

I almost LOL, how they going to find an old guy with good eyesight that good a flashlight and a inspection mirror. It will be much easier to deduct easy things like not Lucas parts.

I'd contact CAT and get a above lic. plate bracket or drill some holes in the deck , I mean boot lid.

SORRY for the topic drift another thread will be created with the info from that meeting. I have asked and gotten the go ahead from their Pres to republish the info here but am waiting on a e file. I have the stuff will make some copies to bring to the meeting Sat.
