Looking for a nice trunk handle. The one I have is pitted and I'm afraid to try and re-chrome it.

A good shop can fix the pitting and bring it up new. There is a chap that specialises in repairing potted metal in South Australia. Can provide the details if you need.

Buy a good repro

Our high-end chrome guy has done some excellent rescues for clients who must keep the original. Perfect work, yes, but $$$. The repros look fine.

Rande,

I think they are referring to the handle you lift with not the hinges. Not sure the handle is reproduced?

Check Classic Sunbeam Auto Parts

Classic Sunbeam Auto Parts lists a "Trunk Pull Handle". Don't know anything about or the quality. Good luck!

Jim,
I'm not sure where on the central coast you are, but there is a shop in San Jose that does very nice plating work. They did my non-peaked headlight rings and bumper over-riders. Not cheap but great work. Google superior chrome for more info. Hope that helps...

handle

I bought one of the reproduction handles when doug was restoring the series 4. the holes for the screws were drilled at an angle and the casting is not to the profile of the original.

Bring me the best one you have or a few to strip and I'll plate up the best one. That's what I was told when doing my Falcon chevron's on the rear qtr panel .

Fortunately it's a easily removed part and won't hold up your refit.

A thing to note, some rooted saloon cars used a handle on the glovebox door that looks very similar to the alpine/tiger trunk handle. It has much thinner threaded studs to locate it and I have seen them sold/ used as trunk handles, this doesn't end well as they either snap the studs or bend/now in the middle due to the greater force placed on them .

handle

The one I bought came from New York and was a reproduction with metric threads and screws, The spread between the screw holes was different and did not fit the trunk holes.

Found?

Thanks for the tip! I keep forgetting about this supplier and somebody at the TU Concours even reminded me.

Called and they said it would be shipped tomorrow. I hope I don't get a call that it is back ordered. :O

Thanks to everyone who chimed in. Like Warren said, it's not something that would hold me up on the project but, I like to get things while the getting is good...or at least so so. :)

Next up, my search for turn indicator housings. Another back ordered item. Mine are just too rough.

handle

let us know if the quality of the handle is any better than it was.
