Tiger United Tire Policy: All tires used must be DOT approved. This year we are enforcing the long time rule that in the Stock class, the car must use the same set of tires and wheels for all events, including tech. However in Personalized and Modified classes, different tires and rims may be substituted. As we announced previously, our guiding principle in classification is that alterations that the committee feels substantially increase autocross performance belong in the Modified class. Clarifying examples are being posted on the CAT web site. If you have any questions, please contact Chris Thoman at (714) 529-0463.

Tigers United Wheel Policy:
The stock Tiger wheels have a history of breaking when used for Autocross. This design weakness is long standing and caused the SCCA to ban their use in Autocross events. As an alternative, many owners of Stock Class Tigers choose to use the optional LAT wheels.

The Tigers United Committe strongly urges that the stock wheels not be used in the Autocross. The TU Committee will look favorably upon stock class participants who seek waivers from the committee's wheels policy to avoid using stock wheels in the Autocross. Any substitute wheels should closely match the width and diameter of the stock wheels. If the use of non-stock wheels is allowed by the Committee, the spirit of the Stock Class Tire Policy will still be enforced. I.e. Fully Treaded street type tires will still be required.

Classification Notes:

We are not using a points system to evaluate which class a car should be in. However we offer a few guiding principles:

The Stock Class recognizes cars that have been kept in showroom stock condition or have been equipped with LAT Options.

The Modified Class is meant for cars that have been modified in a manner that significantly changed the look of the vehicle and/or enhances their performance, especially in the Autocross.

The Personalized Class lies in the middle and contains cars that have been changed and accessorized to reflect the owner’s personal taste. Autocross performance should not be significantly improved over Stock Class cars.

Here are some examples:
A Tiger is equipped with an aftermarket brake system with vented front rotors with a diameter over 12” with a modern 4 piston calipers. Since this significantly enhances the braking capacity of the vehicle it should be entered in Modified.

Or a different Tiger has stock front brakes while the rear drum brakes have been replaced with rear discs having a solid 10” rotor and a 2 piston caliper with pistons 1-9/16” in diameter. Since this alone would not make a significant performance difference versus the stock or LAT option rear brakes, the car would not be required to run in modified.

A Tiger with a 450HP stoker motor wants to compete in Personalized. Since this is a significant change in performance the car should be entered in Modified.

A Tiger has a torque arm installed. Should this automatically move it to modified? No, since the there’s not a significant difference in performance between a Tiger equipped with a torque arm or LAT option traction bars (which also prevent spring wrap-up or wheel hop).

A Tiger is basically stock with modifications such as an modern aluminum radiator, American Racing wheels, a T-5 transmission and Mota Lita steering wheel. Since none of these modifications significantly affect its speed in the autocross it should not be placed in Modified. Either Stock or Personalized would be acceptable. However, since these changes would represent point deductions in the Concours Stock Class, most owners would choose to enter it in the Personalized Class.

The TU Committee has complete discretion to change a car’s classification as it sees fit. Their decision will be final. If you have any questions regarding your car’s Class placement please raise them ASAP to Chris Thoman (714) 529-0463. All Classification questions must be resolved before the first event (Concours on Friday).
