On a clear warm March day C.A.T. Members, family and friends turned out for a Monthly Meeting and guided tour of the Battleship.

Bonnie and I attended with Bonnie's pup in training as a service dog for Canine Companions for independence.

A Battleship like the Iowa is so damn big and armed with many impressive weapons of course. The BIG GUNS are huge and had amazing reach and accuracy. Note the weight of on projectile?? Over 1,900 LB.

That's just mean making the guy with primer on his car park far away....haha. Every time I watch a WWII movie I must always miss the Coke machine on the deck of the ship, will have to pay closer attention next time. Nice pictures and I bet it was very impressive being on that ship.

Primer

Mark has a different approach to tigering. With "fake" bullet holes and oxidized paint? He can park anywhere and any time. A driver!

big guns

Cool pictures...IIRC, the 'big guns' on a battleship were 16" guns. What is that on the pallet in front of the Coke machine? A cruise missile?

Blue bomb

That is a blue/inert 16" practice? projectile of nearly 2,000 lb. Four inert powder bags are on the right (only 1+ visable).

Perspective makes the blue bullet seem bigger than it actually is, in front the not really little people behind. Still impressive and scarey that the IOWA could chuck those 30 miles with precision.

Beautiful photos of the Iowa! Thanks for posting. Oh, and the Tigers were beautiful too. :D
