Valve covers numbers

I have started this thread, because I dont want to hijack Norm's Lost and Found thread. As a long time owner,34yrs. I should know this, but I dont.
If I understand what Ive read the engine number on this tag

is 6887 and the batch is B19KC. On your tag, Duke,
the engine is 2056 and batch A27KA.
But those numbers arent on the block anywere, are they?
So its really not a "matching numbers" engine, but matching valve cover.
 
According to a page on Norm's site, the translation is...

So... B19KC equates to the second month, 19th day 1965 for a build date

It may seem like a lot of engines with the same build dates ( mine is also B19KC ) but bear in mind for example Ford built almost as many Mustangs every DAY as there were Tigers built for the whole model year back in '65 !!

AFAIK, there are no sequential numbers on the block... but the valve covers denote the engine # as in your example '6887' and the build date as above...

Very interesting ! I just went to my parts bin and found 2 sets of Rootes labelled valve covers stating 2357 T12KA ( = sept. 12/64) & 1696 L2KA (april 2nd/64). Still not sure to which VIn's they are corresponding to though...
 
I too have several sets, one on I am confused--it's a L2KA--is that march 2, 1964? When did Tiger production begin?
 
So I know which one goes on which car, and I know Rick at S.S. repops the stickers. My question is, does Rick offer a stamping service or do you need a letter punch set ? Typewriter ? Other
 
There was a guy off the tigers list who did the stamping for about $30 IIRC.. Duke has his details.

I thought the motor's build date was the alpha-numeric that was stamped on the block, next to the distributor.

The date on the block behind the dizzy is the build date that Ford built the motor. The remote oil cooler filter base holder is in pic. I still have a shorty filter on the car but remounted the holder as I am going to change back to big FL1A Fomoco filter. The marking would be really hard to see with the filter and cooler lines in place.

That said there is no such animal as a number matching motor but one with a build date like mine would be period correct. My late 65 date might jive with the boat trip time for a B19KC batch o motors.

This is correct. If the block has ever been decked, they will be gone. My 260 numbers are still there.

My info

Came from Ron Fraser I think ,, Senior moment here. I was searching the sister websites T.E.A.E. and came upon his solicitation for info on the engine numbers and in similar Ford fashion.

As I recall the story went Ford was in heavy production in late 65 for the Mustang and took some time off during the holidays to switch back off Mustang production and make some 260's for Rootes

my car had a hastily P.O. applied chrome VC set with repop tag. What a P.I.A. to keep clean they are on a shelf now in favor of LAT style which add several pounds but look nicer.


Fun stuff, will know for sure on mine as a motor out is scheduled for after Tigers United for repairs mods and oil control as my Tiger does not do any face ripping but isn't quite a kitten either.
 
Where do the decals go?

I've noticed that on some Tigers the Sunbeam decal is on the valve cover with the oil filler neck with a smaller Ford decal on the PCV valve cover side. Other Tigers just had the Sunbeam decal on the PCV valve side.

Which is the correct positioning, or are both correct for different variants?

That hammered the other tags with little attempt to do it in a straight line,
and the same guys who made duplicate entries on other parts.
