I have been trying to determine what the correct water pump for my 1966 289 engine is and I am getting conflicting information.
So far I think that I have determined:
- The 289 had a different water pump to the 260.
- There are different types of pump fitted to the 289, the cast iron one with a backing plate and the ally one without a backing plate.
- The 1964-65 289 had a different pump to the '66 289.
- What ever type of pump is fitted, all the 289 pumps have a discharge port on the right hand side of the car.
Am I correct and are there any other ways of determining which pump to buy to ensure correct alignment & function?
Thanks
