What should I ask for an air cleaner base?

Hi,
A trailer full of parts came with my Tiger, including an original air cleaner base, I have a complete air cleaner assembly on my car.
A local Tiger owner who I met for the first time last week wants to buy it, easier than listing on Ebay, I was thinking $500, what do you think?
The last top and bottom set I saw sold on Ebay for $1350?

Cheers,

Paul

Right now it is worth $225 Dollars + whatever someone is prepared to pay for originality.
The fact that you can barely see it or distinguish it from the repro means that the originality premium could be anything from $0 to $500 depending on the person and whether he knows that the repros exist or not.

How about not being greedy with the stupid market and hook another Tiger owner up. Give it to him. What goes around comes around.

OMG

Duke, I thought today "Hook up," meant something else! and then when you said give it to him for free.. :D

Paul Paretti mentioned he is looking a bottom in Oxnard at the show, he does not want to cut his original up for a fuel injection thing a ma jig.

Why ask this group on what price to ask? Sell it for any price you want. After all, its your property.

Wow, interesting bag of answers. :D
As some of you may know, I'm new to Tigers, but not to old cars.
I asked the question because I'm trying to determine what would be a fair price to charge the guy? Unlike say with old Mustangs, I have no one else to ask, and no history on Tiger parts other than what I've recently read here or seen on Ebay.
I don't know the guy, if he was one of my car buddies I wouldn't be asking, they'd know and we'd work something out...
I'm not a rich guy, I work for a living, as much as I would love to just give the stuff away, I negotiated the parts as part of the purchase of the car knowing that I could sell some of the stuff to help offset what I will need to buy.

Cheers,

Paul

PS. Asked a good car buddy on the weekend what he'd do, his response was do you know if he even really needs it for his car, or does he just want to flip it?
He said "Just like the guy who asked you if you had any MKII wheel well moldings because he was thinking of adding them to his Tiger clone " (I had told my buddy about the set for $8K)
When that guy had asked, I mentioned the set on Ebay for $8K, then he laughed and said "I know, but it was worth a try"...

The flipping part is just impossible to gauge

Even amongst folk here.

I can guarantee that I would use it ON my Tiger and would pay $200-250 for that privilege. This would, in all honesty, be a low offer lately via ebay or other places.

This is a real offer and should be solid evidence for your local buyer buddy should you choose to sell to him.

I'm A/C free at the moment. Selling a fibreglass version now, and will purchase one or more of the neat metal options soon to come on market. I'll be happy to support folks I know that have positive intentions. But, I'm also honest enough to say hundreds of bucks for any of these things hurts. Much rather be spending it elsewhere.

Why, DD, would you buy an original one v brand new one that will be indistinguishable? Patina... period.

thanks, good luck

Patina

Back in wood shop we beat stuff with a chain to create patina.
This is a good question and I understand nobody wants to over pay, or give things away. My advice would be to pitch it on eBay and let market decide. If you really want an estimate go to the horses mouth. Okay I have set myself up for a really good jab, I can take it.

Grasshopper, glad you posted this follow up.

I have to agree with Dude234 and Duke a little though. If you can determine if the part is a legitimate need and it won't just get flipped but I'd ask some token amount for it as it generally seems it's more appreciated that way.

If it looks like it's a flip or to be cut up because he doesn't want to cut up his own I'd ask for the $500 or more.

Seems to me like DD (NA) has made a reasonable offer and it seems it would go to someone that needs it and would put it to good use.

It's nice to have someone to ask but in the end you need to do your own homework and do what you feel comfortable with.

Just my 2 bits.

I have been bashed for my mode of operation on this site but I would rather give a fellow Tiger owner a good deal than make a ton of money on ebay--call me weird but it's called karma. Why not help a fellow enthusiast as one day you may need a favor or part yourself. Just my 2 cents. :)

Thanks for all the input guys.
I'll contact the local first and get a better feel for for his intentions, then if that's a no go I'll PM DD.

Cheers,

Paul

Ok Kid, then sell me that part I wanted to buy from you! :). LOL

Funny Paul

I was thinking the same thing, for both you guys.

I sometimes ask or say "This is for my own personal consumption,"
That's Warren speak for when the car goes on the block it'll be on it.
In Tiger speak the next caretaker of the car and the bits re assembled
for stock condition on or off car.

All kidding aside friends don't let friends ,buy on eBay, "isn't that how that saying goes,'
Especially when it is a spare of a spare or just surplus.
