Wheel Lug Torque

Hi All,

I am getting ready to switch out my after market wheels for the original steel wheels with period correct bias ply tires and the original beauty rings and caps. I am doing this for a concours event and will likely switch back afterwards to my Cosmic wheels with 205/60X13 tires.

I see the WSM says the correct torque is 48, yet other torque charts I have seen say 70-80 for 7/16 studs. Which is correct?

I checked the thread that discussed this topic a while back but I did not see the answer.

Thanks, Jim

Jim, as I recall, the collective wisdom was that the limiting factor seemed to be the strength of the factory nut, not the strength of the stud. Torque the factory nuts early and often to 48 lbs. and you should be fine, especially for your stated purposes.

Cheers, Gene
