Wheel size nomenclature

Anybody know what the difference is between a wheel that is 5.5x13" and 5.5j x13"? Does it have to do with the offset? I am trying to find a suitable spare as I have given up on finding a Cosmic Mk2 with a 4" PCD (I don't know why I have a 4" PCD and not a 4 1/2")...Looking on e bay and google, and I can't find what the "j" means....but they are differentiated Any suggestions as to what would work for a spare? Offset?
Thanks

SPARE SIZE

I have 205x13 tires and I can't use the trunk package shelf, the tire is too fat. Tire size is going to be your determining dimension if you intend to use the package shelf, not wheel size. (btw. I have 2 sets of 13X6 in Capri steel wheels in the shed gathering dust).

I think the J was offset related, the original TechDel minlites were 13x5.5J.

As for spares your studs arent the 4.25 PCD originals is that correct? If they are 4" maybe look at jap cars as they run smaller PCD's... might be easier int he long run to put original hubs on it and go to factory 4.25... and given how stock the car is appropriate.

The 5.5 figure before the J is the wheel rim width. The J has to do with the tire bead contour that matches the rim lip contour. In my limited experience most wheels seem to match the J contour but I have seen a JJ designation occasionally.

A lot of info at http://www.carbibles.com/tyre_bible_pg4.html#rimcontours for your reference.

Cheers,

Gene:)

This is what I read after I initially searched and posted...Thanks
