Where is Dad's MKII?

I'm trying to find out the location of a Pea or Hunter Green MKII. The Tiger had cowls on the headlights. Obviously, not correct but a distinguishing cosmetic for anybody that knows.

Sold to twins from the East Bay in Nor Cal in the mid to late 80's.

I get it, the information is vague, but at this time I have very few details. The seller was my dad and his name is John Shaffer from San Mateo. I don't want him to know I'm looking for the car. Mom has been unsuccessful at tracking down a VIN# for me.

Dad was a member of one of the clubs for a short time too. He sold that car to buy his kids(me being one of them) a swimming pool. I never agreed with that move, but in my pre-teens what was I going to say? At the time I don't think I fully grasped the sacrifice, but I do now. For several years after the sale he bought non-running Tigers and never really got them going. I know he was trying to replace that green MKII.

I guess I feel some guilt? I also know what he did for us and what a good dad he has been. I'd like to find that car and at the very least have a talk with the present owner.

Thanks in advance for any help in my search,

Bill

License Number?

Bill,

Does your mom have any appropriate photographs that might show the license plate? It's probably a long shot, but you might be able to track down the car by it.

Good luck and I wish you success!

David

Thanks!

The search continues...

I will have mom look for pics.

I imagine someone on this forum will know that car and be able to help.

Everybody I've talked to has been very supportive.

Thanks again,

Bill

You might also try contacting STOA in nor cal to see if they remember a green MkII like that from the era. Have you tried contacting Norm Miller?

I will try that too!

I'm just starting this search and I'm expecting it to take some time. Thanks for the STOA advice.

I figured I just needed to start joining clubs and asking around. My mom actually told me that sometime ago she spoke with Norm because she was trying to buy a BON and couldn't find them for sale anywhere. He set her straight though.

As recommended I will be joining the STOA site shortly after I press "Submit Reply".

Thanks

Howdy neighbor...

Bill welcome,
First, I too am in San Mateo.
Second, have an idea... The BON might have some clues or even better... and I have the loaner now. Not too too many MKII to look through. Please advise approx dates of ownership?
Third, I do recommend joining all these clubs if for nothing else to help fund the activities and forums. Stoa also has fairly local events monthly with a service day next sat, which unfortunately I can't make.
Lastly, drop me a mail either in this pm format or click website below and click ping me at the top. Be nice to have a forum local and sometimes could use a hand or twelve trying to put this thing back together lol.

Oh. And there's a green MKII up for auction in Monterey this august. Would be happy to help hold a paddle for you. (Fun spending other folks money...)

Wish you luck on the find. You will discover that it being a MkII will make it cost prohibitive to reown.

I have a friend who has been at DMV for 25 years , he was able to pull up every car , motorcycle, boat and trailer I have owned back to late 70s with his computer , took all of 5 mins. All you need is to get the vin off one of the registration renewals in DMV data base and you are in like flint . You can then check it in the registry . I searched just using my name .

Dont give up , info seems to come from the least likely sources sometimes . People at car shows, parts ads, etc. Fortunately Tigers are not that common and people tend to remember them.

Also if he owned it he paid tax on it , check the tax rolls ( Public domain ) in the town he lived in at the time . Just ask at the tax assessors office .

Good luck and keep us updated .

Since this is a covert operation I'm wondering if DMV would give me my dads registration history?

And the tax assessor is genius! Lot's of good info from all of you.

Cheers

COST!!

Yes, I am well aware of the going prices these days. Based on my non-urgent timeline I think I'll have time to see if this is a bubble or not. If "or not" then I'm prepared to get him into a nice Tiger.

Thanks Duke,

P.S. Love your vids. Spent a good part of a baseball game watching the forum vids.

Thank you all...

I'd like to thank everybody that dropped a line wishing me luck on the search and also thank everybody that offered suggestions.

To CT for his direction and to mr55s and DD for finding the VIN for me.

You guys are great!

I think the Mod can squash this thread now.

This is may be completely useless info. My father met and corresponded with a set of twins who owned a green mkII tiger that was lacking the chrome wheel well arches and rocker chrome. He called them the Norman bros after their last name. I did not however know where they lived. They came to my dad's house in Vancouver BC in the late 80's to videotape his car. I know they did not live in the area. I hope it helps
