Who would like a Technical Section?

Should a Technical Section be added to the forum?

Yes I agree this would be very helpful to assist a recent buyer like myself.
I intend to restore my car to a concours condition, and have found it very difficult and some times frustrating to find information if not for the help of some on this forum.

I like Jim's idea about simplifying/grouping component areas as changing one often times leads to a cascade of other changes.

Also, what about a section for 'reversible updates' for an more modern ride that can be put back to bone stock? If not a section perhaps a list or index pointing to the appropriate section. -- just a thought...

Great Idea

Great Idea, it would be wonderful to have things better organized and locatable, I know I, and I'm sure others, have asked questions repeatedly that have already been covered in detail in previous posts. Doing a search frequently doesn't come up with what you're looking for (especially when you don't know what you're looking for is called), being able to go to the topic and sub area would be very helpful.

Why not just align it with the shop notes (which is aligned with the shop manual). Those categories are already pretty well defined...

Shop notes/manual

Using the same categories as shop notes or the user manual make sense, and then adding the restoration and concourse sections would work. Right now I do key word searches when trying to find info and this idea would help. I am all for organization as long as it isn't overwhelming for the moderator.

Not first poll , etc.

Been looking at the GTD threads and working with the tools in place as I mentioned before. The search function is rather clunky. I have found it requires more exact wording and that a simple search hub puller will not get some posts that are on page 100 ish in GTD. The tag system may help out but many have not even used that feature.

On the screen I see the thread will stay in GTD with a moved icon and a rather large explanation. On the Mod side this will expand the viewable pages hugely. Including some and leaving others out may make for hard feelings. Rick has mentioned some drawbacks to changes there is always a lot more that doesn't meet the eye.

Have developed six subcategories in line with the workshop manual. Will be a stock and modified section.

Engine - cooling and fuel
Gearbox - clutch, propeller shaft and rear end
Suspension - front, rear and rear axle
Steering
Brakes, wheels and tires
Body - interior, electrical and heater

The categories look fine, but I would recommend you drop the bifurcation of modified and stock. Understandably, members will tend to focus on the type car they have. By keeping it all aligned solely with the shop notes/manual all things brakes, engines, gearbox etc can be found in one location. It makes for a better reference and educational tool...IMHO.

Thanks.
