Wiring issues

Where are the major grounds in the system? I have the wiring diagram, but I mean where physically on the car?

Lights, turning signals and ignition work. Wipers, panel lights and blower does not. Then today, lights would not work. I hit the ignition switch to see if the battery was dead and it jogged the starter and the lights came on at that time.

There are no frayed or chewed wires from rodents, so it must be a grounding issue. Ugh! I hate wiring. I wish someone could make a house call and I could pay them to do it!!! I like to do most thing myself but not this.

From my memory, there are a few points under the dash where the ground leads are attached. They include the instrument mounting bracket screws, another is the body of the wiper motor. I assume a better idea will be posted in time.

More Grounds

There is also the clutch slave (brass nut) to the frame and the blower motor to the bulkhead. The solenoid mount bolts must have good contact. Paint/rust/corrosion make for poor conductors. Clean all with small wire brush, sandpaper, whatever. The daisy chain from the instrument cluster can be a headache. I like to splice additional bonds from both ends to the bulkhead with a self tap screw.

House calls from the frozen Nor'east could get $$$$$.

I wish I lived closer. I'd be glad to help. It is quite common for the switches to be inoperative if not used regularly. Usually flipping the switches on and off several times will get them working.

Good grounds are critical to a working Sunbeam electrical system. Contact me at palmjeld@yahoo.com and I can send you some diagrams and tips/hints that you may find helpful.

Contact cleaner

I have had good results on NLA e switches by using a contact cleaner designed for old switches and rotary and ignition switches. Just to be safe I always disconnect the power supply first.
