Is this record money for a clock? I bought one about a year ago for $300. Seems like a bargain now! The parts on my Tiger have appreciated way better than my stock portfolio. Crazy bubble we're in now. :D

who needs a warranty anyway

Shame it doesn't run. So nice of him to recommend someone to the buyer to fix the broken clock he just sold them.. You just can't make s**t like this up~

Crazy!!
The e-Bay/Paypal fees will be about $200 which is what I sold a CE 313/01 for a year ago :confused:

And ours even works ! ! ! ! Double that E-Bay sale price and we'll throw in free shipping . . . . .

Alert: Unprecedented Opportunity!

My perfect Smiths clock is available for only $8999.99 plus shipping. Sale is final, however. No returns accepted.

Good for Volvo guys

One of our brothers from SAOCA a good contributor there. I paid 200 for mine too, by sniping out of eBay:cool:

I just wish I could find that sucker that's born every minute on my eBay bits for sale.

Good grief!!!
It's not even in very good condition.

This very same clock probably sold on UK ebay for $100 a few weeks ago.

I have a box with 3 sets of gages and one complete dash ,all have smiths clocks , Flea market find , some years ago , at the time I figured cant go wrong with spare parts , now I am thinking cant go wrong with spare $$$$$.......

Is it me or are parts going for stupid $$$ on Flea bay !

For all we know the guy had a phony bidder make it go that high, now in a few weeks he can relist it and see if it brings more $$. I have heard that is what Barrett Jackson got caught doing a few years ago, they would send their own cars through early in the auction to try and set the prices.

Something I always wonder about when I see aberrations on eBay and elsewhere.

Nope

Nah! Mark's a straight shooter and wouldn't stoop to that sort of nonsense. But, I've met a few integrity-lacking chaps along the way . . . . . .

One Model Smith's Clock Is Even More Rare

Hi All

Certainlt top dollar, but not a total surprise. Although other clocks can be made to look correct, the CE 3131/01 IS correct. I bet a working Smiths CE 3030/00 for the early MkI's could fetch this price, perhaps more. I have not seen one in years.

:)Where are the CE XXXX/XX (numbers) located? Very small letters on my dial say made in england.

Mark the Volvo Guy

I agree that Mark is a very straight shooter. I also have dealt with him on eBay purchases and never found him to be anything but profession.

Besides, even if he created a false sale to get the sales price up, wouldn't he have to still pay eBay, with no guarantee of recouping his expenses?

I suspect that there were two bidders who desperately wanted that clock and were going to bid practically anything to get it.

Gotta love pure capitalism!

I think what happens is a bidder decides that he wants the item but isn't sure where the final price will be. Gives a max bid much higher than expected sale to insure that he/she is in the running. Unfortunately, other bidders do the same thing and the next thing you know you get an inflated price on the selling price of the item. Obviously, much depends on how bad someone wants the item. I honestly believe that many of these people really don't expect to pay what they end up paying but as I said when multiple bidders give really high max bids to insure a good chance of winning this happens.
Just my .02 cents. It has happened to me a couple of times but not on items this expensive.

Based on the bidding activity, it looks like a battle of egos. One or the other was going to prevail and screw the cost.

That is one of the most rediculous prices I have seen on eBay... Just stupid... You can buy those all day long for 100 or less in UK... I have seen NOS for less than 300

If that's a real sale the second highest bidder can contact me and I'll sell them one and a bunch of other parts like lighters and ammeters

Gee whizz; I just happen to know a Cobra guy who is looking for a quality Casco lighter to finish out his dash . . . . .
