Stupidity breeds contempt

well... here we go.....

someone has seen the price and is rolling the dice.. heck why not? listed with a BIn price of US$1250... they are not offering free shipping.. but for that money i guess you are not worried about a few $ for post?

At least this one is in nice condition and has the bracket and rubber O ring..

oK, I'll sell the one I just got for that price and I'll overnight ship! ;)

Mike, do you have a proper MKI clock for me to trade? I know you are globe skipping, and I'm a long way from plugging in a clock.

Paul, do you mean the /00 code clock? If so nope.. only ever seen about 5-6 of those for sale.... the MKIA/II style ones are easy to find.. as per the auction.

For the early MKI setup just get a S3/IV /07 clock.. looks the same except the polarity and the little numbers.

Whick really brings in to question if the data on what clocks where supplied for what cars is really accurate. At this point, I'm putting this clock in. Who's to say I didn't swing by the dealership in 1966-67 and say, "hey, I need a clock, can you install one?".

End of story.

Paul

I hate to be a party pooper but we could all have clocks in our cars if someone would just silkscreen the correct face. There are plenty of Smiths clocks of the same style for other cars. I just bought two on ebay for cheap and with a new face could have a correct enough clock in my car for under a hundred bucks. Lee

But that would kill the market for the big bucks sales. Didn't someone just do that for air cleaners.?

No you don't

The letters that are done by Paul B. are vinyl static cling, he also makes all the instruments as well. You are completely right having the right bezel with the adjusters in the right place is a big part of the project but also so is a model for the mfg.

I do have the 00 clock and thank goodness I have a MK1 now and a excuse to pick it out of the MK1a, notice how bad it looks with the cheap plastic heater control knobbers:)

If there was interest I would be a party to being the donor so it could be copied.

Oh by the way, I recall my support for Volvoguys on the Alpine site he admonished us for having a "CLUB DISCOUNT" on the air cleaners. I have only heard 3 guys squealing that we polluted the gene pool. The other 99.97% thinks we did a good thing

For simple example. Virtually unsellable crappy smiths jag clock on ebay 221549229514, replace the face upside down (many for sale are correct with dials on bottom) red hands and change the setting knob to correct and you have a cheap reproduction look clock on your tiger. Or do what I did and get one that is correct with the wrong face. Lee

I should correct my comment. The professionally silk screened gauges look great. I restored the gauges on my oldsmobile and they looked as new. Shouldn't have used the term cheap look...... Lee example below

I should conclude this thread that CAT sells a reproduction quarts clock. I have not seen one in person but they appear to be a nice alternative and buying one would help the club move them out of their warehouse. Lee

Wondering who made them and if I could get a couple silk screened faces to fit to my project reproduction clocks.

The s3/iv alpine used a clock that is virtually identical in appearance to the mki tiger clock . the difference being the small part number and polarity. The 2019/14 is an ideal substitute.

The sii alpine also used the same clock bar having white hands which you can paint. Either of these is an ideal substitute and avoids making a repro face

Sunbeam alpine tiger clock on ebay: not really. We had a discussion about the Tiger clocks. Here is a perfect example that is going to sell for more that it should. It is what I am going to call an alger-clock not correct for the Tiger or Alpine but looks pretty good in the hole and some Tiger guy won't know the difference and will bid it to more than they should. Correct face and hands for the mk1 wrong details/ part number. Going to sell for 300 and the happy buyer will have a Smiths clock in the hole

Clock me

So... I gather from the above thread the numbers matching guys aren't going to like the authentic appearing but fake "Jaeger" voltmeter and clock I'm having West Valley Inst. make for my Tiger? I've always hated having non matching brands of instruments... would rather they all look like they match. Appropriate, not correct.

With you totally

Bob I agree with you totally. I will have a 8000 RPM Jagerized Autometer coming soon. I just recently cobbled together a off brand volt meter together with the original face. Not really happy as in the off position its needle left but when on works okay...

I had a original Tachometer modified by a local speedo shop and it's cost and benefit was not the greatest at $175 . It still acted like a old British instrument but was kind of OK on the warmed 260. For about 100 dollars more I'm getting a accurate looking "mostly" and working unit.

As for the clocks it seems to have a reproduction face with the proper numbers is the way to go rather then getting caught up in a originality fetish combined with eBay hi jinks. I believe Lee was saying that the clock in question could be adapted to look real. The real winner of the auction will be eBay as they may get reserve fees till this seller drops his price.

Nisonger wants about $275
Jaguar clock guy about $100
Not sure what Paul is charging on the little gauges or clock faces.

I chose the Jag guy and have a couple project clocks that will go his way too.

They look much nicer than the dash plug and when repaired with a I.C.
actually work.
