I remember the write-up about that first Monterey run, and the test event before. There were some photos of it testing with no decals applied.. used to be on one of the sites?

That early phase after the resto the Tiger had the Dunlop D-type style wheels before the original LM Tiger wheels got recast. Iirc Chris had the wheels cast and then another set of molds and castings were done by Darrell or Dick (#9 and mule) does anyone know what happened to the molds?

As a side note.. I've never seen another car run the LM tiger wheels.

I've read that before LM a Dunlop rep came to Rootes and offered the new Dunlop wheels to Chambers and they bought them.... But I've never seen a model number for the wheels or another car that ran them other than the Tigers.

A very nice opportunity indeed, provided somebody has a bit of "pocket money" left over ;).

We had the wheel topic a bit earlier:

https://www.catmbr.org/cat-forum/threads/oops-found-something.6329/

So far we didn't go into a repro run, but still an option since there is increasing interest due to the 15" size which matches to bigger braking systems & better availability of tires...
Bernd, forgot about that.

Did you ever get in touch with Darrell , I believe it was Dick Barker and Chris that did the second molds... not sure where they went after his passing.

As a side note... I now have a contact that could make those wheels at a sensible price... Could be don't as normal lug wheels.

As I said in the old post the wheel you had didnt look like stud holes but the pin drive mounts for the splined hubs.

No, I didn't yet. There are several options of where and how to get them reproed if there just would be enough interest. Wonder what has happened to the molds too...

Looking back at the time with Chris Gruys and the Monster,

It was quite a time!

Chris was one of the first Tiger guys

I met in the late '70s.

He gave me a ride on the track in the #9 coupe

at Willow back then.

I saw the Monster just after Chris brought.

it from the UK.

Chris bought the Monster because it still had the original

suspension and brakes from the coupe, but NOT the original Wheels.

The wheels on the Monster (late '70s) were Beyond HUGE!

Fast forward 20+ YEARS...

I picked up the rolling Monster body in primer

from Kimmins 6-7-2003.

And loaded it up to go Racing at Monterey

8-7-2003.

YES, 2 Months!

NO time to "TEST" the car!

The account was reported in Tiger tales

September 2003.

During my time with the Monster, it had the modified Jag suspension

and Jag brakes that were on the #9 coupe when Chris bought it.

As far as the wheels, Dick Barker Recast

some for the Mule, but was VERY protective

about having any more made.

One reason Chris bought the Mule from

Barker is because it came with the original

wheels including the one turned into

tooling for new wheels.

With that tooling, Chris made more wheels

for the Monster and changed the suspension

and brakes back to coupe spec.

Well... The Monster sold ... US$130k + fees.

That's a very cheap car considering its potential and the quality of the work and parts... I guess it'a all down to what the perception of what it is or isn't.

An interesting side note is the "Sebring Harrington" which is owned by the seller of the Monster was bought for close to 1.5x that amount.. it has the N.A.R.T association.. and ran the 2x 12 hour FIA enduros... But other than the roof and side windows that's about all the crossed the finish line in 62/63.....

The Monster had a much more successful career and has run Goodwood 2012 and Monterey Historic...

Interesting results...

Michael - Did the Sunbeam Harrington sell back in 2020 (Arizona 2020)? That could account for why it sold for so much, the collector car market was hotter then. (Not sure it is enough to account for all the difference, though.)

Yes it sold.. the buyer to the one who bought the Monster on B.A.T when Fantasy Junction listed it .. I also believe the same person may have bought Steves Sebring Alpine.. so at least one car that's actually the car....

A side note the Harrington was sold for £110k+fees I. 2016 .. after the CKL had done work to correct details on the car to make it closer to its 63 spec... And it had run at Goodwood and a feature article in the UK classic mags... But the Sebring Harrington is a 100% replica... RM were informed.. corresponding with a few of us about the car.. we gave them evidence...they carefully reworded their copy to be misleading but not an absolute outright lie .. need I say more about their integrity....

The integrity issue should be a surprise to no one....
