Looking back at the time with Chris Gruys and the Monster,
It was quite a time!
Chris was one of the first Tiger guys
I met in the late '70s.
He gave me a ride on the track in the #9 coupe
at Willow back then.
I saw the Monster just after Chris brought.
it from the UK.
Chris bought the Monster because it still had the original
suspension and brakes from the coupe, but NOT the original Wheels.
The wheels on the Monster (late '70s) were Beyond HUGE!
Fast forward 20+ YEARS...
I picked up the rolling Monster body in primer
from Kimmins 6-7-2003.
And loaded it up to go Racing at Monterey
8-7-2003.
YES, 2 Months!
NO time to "TEST" the car!
The account was reported in Tiger tales
September 2003.
During my time with the Monster, it had the modified Jag suspension
and Jag brakes that were on the #9 coupe when Chris bought it.
As far as the wheels, Dick Barker Recast
some for the Mule, but was VERY protective
about having any more made.
One reason Chris bought the Mule from
Barker is because it came with the original
wheels including the one turned into
tooling for new wheels.
With that tooling, Chris made more wheels
for the Monster and changed the suspension
and brakes back to coupe spec.
