There we go again--code 58. For such a "rare" color it sure pops up a lot. I actually ran across a code 58 car this week in my neighborhood, it's a project but the guy is excited to do it. Reminded me of swiss cheese.
Good Morning Guys, My name is Steve and I purchased this car several weeks ago. I've been looking for a Tiger for decades, can't tell you how excited I was to find it. The car comes with an unrestored hardtop and I would love some advice on a proper restoration. The top is currently black and I'm wondering if it should be painted body color or left black? Would also appreciate leads on finding replacement stainless steel trim pieces that are missing.

I believe hardtops when ordered as an original option with the car came with the same colour as the body. Hardtops ordered after taking delivery of your Tiger from dealers only came in black. That's the understanding in the UK, could differ in North America. Cheers
The fun thing about the internet is we get to watch even gurus learn a thing or two...rare... But on occasion.
The more I'm learning, the more I realize we don't know. Felt this way after college too. So, it's making the resto fun.
Randy, click the link and take a look at the title page on my website below. With mom in the new car, outside the Presidio circa 1967. As ordered from factory.
Maybe it'll be your first?
Finding same situation on lots of original bits. The guys at the specialty parts supply "have not seen that," nor the pro recon shops "no, the inner fenders were not like that..." Etc. makes it kind of nice for the new guys because we may have more flexibility to stay "correct" or "period" than realized. Plenty of examples and realizations that hacks, shortcuts, odd parts, we're often the norm even from factory. No. Not always but "correct" is often hard to find.
Someone with a 22k car has no better bearing on someone with a higher mileage car and lineage.
Derek
So clearly, black is acceptable and if the top was ordered with the car, body color was possible. Thanks fellas, and thank you Norm for directing me to the trim pieces. I was the high bidder and probably paid too much, but it would seem these pieces are pretty darn hard to find.
