1966 Washington Tiger on EBAY

There we go again--code 58. For such a "rare" color it sure pops up a lot. I actually ran across a code 58 car this week in my neighborhood, it's a project but the guy is excited to do it. Reminded me of swiss cheese.

Interesting! My car is B9470945 and is an original 58 paint code as well. Same engine group. Does this mean that this car was like 3 behind mine on the line?

I am sure someone knows but I wonder if they ever did "runs" of a certain color, ie.... 3 red cars, then 3 white cars, etc.... My current code 58 car is about 400 before yours and my other 58 car was a Mk1A.

How have I missed this?? I lived in Spokane for 22 years, I still drive there mon-fri for work, and never seen it. I've been to countless car shows too. Nice looking Tiger...

On its way to Augusta, GA.

Good Morning Guys, My name is Steve and I purchased this car several weeks ago. I've been looking for a Tiger for decades, can't tell you how excited I was to find it. The car comes with an unrestored hardtop and I would love some advice on a proper restoration. The top is currently black and I'm wondering if it should be painted body color or left black? Would also appreciate leads on finding replacement stainless steel trim pieces that are missing.

Saw these on UK EBAY:

I painted my top body color on my MK1a. Personal preference.

I believe hardtops when ordered as an original option with the car came with the same colour as the body. Hardtops ordered after taking delivery of your Tiger from dealers only came in black. That's the understanding in the UK, could differ in North America. Cheers

All the hard tops I ever saw (from day 1) were black, except for those that had been personalized. more cheers

Welcome gasman and hard top color

The fun thing about the internet is we get to watch even gurus learn a thing or two...rare... But on occasion.

The more I'm learning, the more I realize we don't know. Felt this way after college too. So, it's making the resto fun.

Randy, click the link and take a look at the title page on my website below. With mom in the new car, outside the Presidio circa 1967. As ordered from factory.

Maybe it'll be your first? ;)

Finding same situation on lots of original bits. The guys at the specialty parts supply "have not seen that," nor the pro recon shops "no, the inner fenders were not like that..." Etc. makes it kind of nice for the new guys because we may have more flexibility to stay "correct" or "period" than realized. Plenty of examples and realizations that hacks, shortcuts, odd parts, we're often the norm even from factory. No. Not always but "correct" is often hard to find.

Someone with a 22k car has no better bearing on someone with a higher mileage car and lineage.

Black was it

Not counting those seen at shows and race heats, there were only 7 Tigers in our Nor'east den of recalcitrants from 1964 thru circa 1971 - ish. Only two came with hardtops from the factory (black), including an early MK1 with a plastic steering wheel. Ole# 78 and a bronze flavored MK 1A still survive. Not exactly a vast cross section to draw any conclusion from, but, what I saw at the time was black and only black.

Hard top color

So clearly, black is acceptable and if the top was ordered with the car, body color was possible. Thanks fellas, and thank you Norm for directing me to the trim pieces. I was the high bidder and probably paid too much, but it would seem these pieces are pretty darn hard to find.

No problem, we're here to help. I know they aren't cheap but just be glad you don't have to buy MK2 trim pieces.

Rick at Sunbeam Specialities has clips, rubber, headliner, seals and pleixglas windows for the hardtop along with hundreds of other essential Tiger parts.

Glass windows are available and there was a thread about them a few months ago.

Not seeing a link on this website for joining the club? Sunbeam Specialists did not have part number HT-62, which is the clips to assemble the rear window hardtop trim. Appreciate any leads.
