Why stuff a Turkey when you can stuff 454 horse power into a Tiger.

Happy T(iger)-Day.

Duke you look very comfortable, almost like you're taking a nap under there!

What's your recipe for 454 HP?

Happy Thanks Giving!

ok, what am I missing? I see 386hp (which is still very impressive).

Yep 386 RWHP. To get crank you need to add the 15% that is drive line loss.

386 / .85 = 454.1 crank HP

Some say that the toploader and dana 44 suck more than 15%, I just go with the 15% standard for a manual tranny.

Just gotta tweak the exhaust, install the drive shaft and bleed the brakes. Then its time to see if all leaks have been fixed.

If you see a mushroom cloud towards the center of the US, it's my head that exploded because the car is still leaking.

ok, got it. I thought for some reason that the dyno numbers were with the engine on a stand--then I am very impressed now. :)

Good and very bad.

Oil pan, rear main and tranny seem to be dry now.

When the engine was out I re-torqued the intake and heads. For sure caused a leak in the intake which about filled the crankcase with coolant. Caught it early and replaced the intake gasket last night. Flushed the engine with cheap oil and it is still getting water in the pan. Guess I blew at least one head gasket re-torquing them. Compression on #1 is low (100 psi).

Going to fill it up with cheap oil again and run it to be sure I am getting coolant in it.

I may get the distinct pleasure of pulling the heads while the engine is in the car. That will be one hell of a task.

Good thing its the winter time.

turkey

duke,
it's a BRITISH car. they don't leak oil. they're just marking their territory.

Bummer Dude !!! There is an old saying " If it ain't broke
don't fix it" seems to apply here. Now had this been a good reliable LS7 Chebby this would not happen since there is no coolant in the manifold !!

Let us know what you wind up doing !!!

More Cautions

Heads are off, gotta order parts and then re attack.

Every single time (no exceptions) when we remove aluminum heads, we check the mating surface for flat. Too many times the darned things have moved and won't seal worth a darn without a gentle surfacing. The torque proceedure if fairly strict also . . . . . . 2 cents

Having the heads cleaned and surfaced. Please share your torque procedure.

Torque Aluminum

From the center, move outward alternating both directions in 10 lb steps. Removal is in reverse and never remove a hot one. I'm fairly certain the head manufacturers detail this in their warranty/installation instructions . . . .Some ask that the upper center and then the two beside it are snugged before doing the lower center and then the two beside it, and so on. The object, I would guess, is to gently roll the things flat from the middle outwardly. My old steel beaters seem to accept any abuse from any direction.

That thing is sweet... while i'm sure most of us dont want to be pulling and building multiple motors i short sequence.. what a great way to make sure all is right before it goes in, especially with something like a Tiger.

that said, when i get round to the next motor build on my alpine i'd love to bolt it up to that with the DCOE's hanging out in the air.. would make a lovely living room addition :D

Love the sound of my DCOE's makes owning a Sunbeam Alpine something else. It is a bugger to start when cold but that awsome sound when the webbers awake is priceless.

The Tiger rebuild will be good, however still love the sound of webbers on song.
