Rare Works Tiger at Auction

This is the first time I have ever read that the original Shelby prototype Alpine V/8 was referred to as "Thunderbolt".

It's even more astonishing that even Rootes did reshelling with a Tiger ...

Not uncommon in rally circles in the 60's for taxation avoidance when rall cars got damaged. Happened lots on mini's. In this case its not a re-shell as in switching parts in to an alpine body.. but they took a fresh tiger and gave it the VIN and JAL and registration number of AHP 249. The Uk club knows the donor cars ID IIRC.

A more interesting factory sanctioned rebody happened stateside with the race tiger shelby ran. As it occurred outside the factory where a car got a new tiger shell after extensive damage.
