Tiger B382000604 LRXFE‏

No, I do get it

No, Pressed Steel assembled each body to be a Tiger OR an Alpine. While assembling the body, they knew which it was for and used the correct steel components for each. Alpine bodies are different from Tiger bodies, regardless of how similar they look.

If it doesn't matter to you if your car started off its existence as an Alpine instead of Tiger, that is fine. Just please don't try to convince others that it is a Tiger. That is the fraud that some others have spoken about.

It very much does matter to me that my car is a real Tiger. I was really agreeing with you but now I have re-read my post I can see how you have interpreted it. I have heard that there may have been some differences in the two bodies from pressed steel at manufacture but have not ever heard what they are. I think STOC was hoping to find solid evidence of it in the archives.
A tiger needs to have come from Jensons doors not Joe Blogs.

You intrigue me with your comments on my car. I would be most obliged if you could kindly explain why you think my Tiger is an Alger. PM me if you wish.

Mal I think you have misread the post... No suggestion of your car being rebodied in Davids post. He was saying broadly it doesn't matter if "your" (as in anyone's) car was built as an alpine or tiger ... Just as long as " you" ( any owner/seller) does don't try and conceal the cars true origins.

This thread will cover much old ground and you have a certain forum member who will do his best to drag it on and start and start an argument about how all tigers started as alpines.. This is both historically not correct and proven showing a lack of research and knowledge on said persons behalf...despite being aware of the information. ( sad bit that's how he gets his kicks)

In short ... There would not be a tiger without the alpine. They both had unibodies made at same time In the same factory. They were however designated to be an alpine or tiger during the initial manufacture and that generated differences on their base build.

Tigers were then assembled at Jensen where further modification and additions were made.

Yes you can replicate this process ... But that's what you get... A replica. There is nothing wrong with that but the only reason you start to switch vin and JAL tags is to try and imply that the alpine YOU modified was actually originally built as a tiger and spent the last 50 yearscas such... That's fraud.

No Intentions Meant

I'm sorry if my words were interpreted as casting aspersions on your car. That was not what I meant and I apologize. In my second paragraph, I meant the "you" in general; I should have used "one". My intent was to say that for some folks, it may not matter if their car started off as a Tiger or as an Alpine - they have just as much fun with it either way. (Personally, I can see the fun in taking a car and modifying the heck out of it, and I would probably start with an Alpine only because they are cheaper than a Tiger, in general. Hope this doesn't offend any Alpine owners!) I just want to make sure that if someone thinks they are buying a Tiger that they are buying a Tiger.

Thanks for giving me a chance to clarify my original statement.
David
