Hello fellow Tiger owners! Once again Lynn Park of the Cobra Owners Club of America is inviting our members to a low key and very reasonably priced track day in conjunction with the Cobra Club at Willow Springs Raceway in Rosamond, CA. Our May CAT club meeting will take place there, and even if you don't run your car on the track, spectators are welcome. We'd love to get a good showing of cars. This a great chance to see (and hear!) Tigers, Cobras, and Mustangs running around a track for just a small gate entrance fee of $15. Don't hesitate to ask any questions.

TIGER TRACK DAY WILLOW SPRINGS! MAY 9th and 10th

CAT Club Meeting during the midday lunch break.

The fee for participating on the track is $200/car for both days with pre-registration which is due by May 8th. After that, pay at the event $250 (providing the event hasn’t been oversold).
Please register early and avoid the possibility of getting turned away.
Make checks payable to Cobra Owners Club of America and mail to:

COCOA
PO Box 823
La Canada, CA 91012

This is not a race and there are no awards, but a great chance to enjoy a safe fun weekend with your car. $200 for a weekend is a great bargain, which will include a driving tips session courtesy of COCOA.
This is a fantastic opportunity for those who have not driven their Tiger on the track to learn in a safe and welcoming atmosphere!
Spectators are welcome and also car owners that are not driving on the track. There is a $15 fee at the entrance per person (everyone) at the front gate.
Saturday May 9th will have our May C.A.T. club meeting about noon. Come out and drive on the track, or just come watch and admire the Tigers as well as some phenomenal Cobras and the song a Ford V8 makes at full throttle.
There will be a tech inspection beginning at 8 a.m. with rules very similar to a Tigers United or C.A.T. autocross event.

1) Dual throttle return springs are required.
2) Battery hold down must be secure.
3) Anything that can slide around in the cab or the trunk must be removed
4) Tires, brakes, seatbelts must all be in good shape.
5) Check for any loose lugs, bolts, nuts, wheel bearings, etc.
6) Roll bar is needed for anyone wishing to participate in the faster groups.
7) Have a fire extinguisher attached to a fixed point with a metal bracket.
8) No leaks! We don’t want to oil down the track for that 7 figure car behind you.
9) Wear a SNELL 2000 or newer helmet.
There will be a MANDATORY driver’s meeting Saturday May 9th at 9 a.m.

For those wishing to attend both days there are options for lodging. In the past the Cobra Club has used the Oxford Suites in Lancaster https://www.oxfordsuiteslancaster.com
A closer, but more budget option, is the Devonshire Inn https://www.devonshireinn.com

If you have any questions, please contact Dan MacMedan at vicepresident@catmbr.org.

The last time I was at Willow Springs, they had a sign advising that the fee for entry was going to go up to $15, starting Jan. 2020. I have not been there this calendar year to verify that.

Still a good rate, and good for both days.

Very civilised drivers briefing time.. Here they are 7:30am. I guess it means on track earlier and more session time ... But never good to be tired before hesding to track

Willow Admission fee is now $15

Hi All!

As previously stated, the admission fee has in fact been increased to $15. It still says $10 on their website, with a caveat at the bottom stating the increase. Thanks for pointing that out!

Track Tips from Pete Brock

The video (link below) was made by Ford, but features Shelby's cars in competition. Part of it includes Pete Brock talking about how racers take different corners at Willow Springs. For those taking their cars out at this upcoming event in May, there might be some tips there you can use. (I doubt the one old tire shown in the video is still there, however!)

And for those going to the event but not planning to flog their car around the track, this video is very interesting. It was made shortly before the GT-40s took Le Mans by storm.

And, no, no Tigers are featured, but the Sunbeam Tiger is mentioned as in the same class as the GT350s.

May 9-10 Track Day and Meeting Postponement COVID-19

Hello Tiger enthusiasts:

Due to obvious reasons and the expansion of the 'Safer at Home' order to May 15th, Lynn Park and COCOA have decided to postpone their track day at Willow Springs. In kind, we are also cancelling the CAT club meeting scheduled for the noon on May 9th. There will be no May meeting for CAT.

As of this writing, COCOA is trying to reschedule the track day to October 24-25th, which is normally when they have their fall meeting. Of course this is all dependent on how the world responds to the pandemic, but as of now, we will follow suit and make October 24th noon our October CAT club meeting.

Please mark your calendars as such.

Thank you,

Dan MacMedan

May 9-10 Track Day at Willow Springs: Yet another update and change

In the quickly changing world of COVID-19, it turns out the Cobra Club has decided to go ahead with their track day at Willow Springs May 9-10 after consulting with the health dept and local police dept. COCOA already paid the fee for the track and they will have a lot of guidelines to follow, but feel they will be able to comply with them.

That said, due to the continuing 'Stay at Home' order in Los Angeles and surrounding areas, and following social distancing guidelines, the CAT club will NOT be hosting a May meeting during this track event. Our members can by all means attend on their own. If anybody wants to bring a Tiger, send $200 to COCOA, Box 823, La Canada, CA 91012 and show up on the morning of May 9th by 8AM.

Thank you for all your understanding and sorry about the confusion on this issue.

Dan

I will be there with my Boss 302. Any Tigers going? I've got to get out and do something.
