As I write this the Car Show is done, all events completed and we are chill'n and looking forward to the banquet and awards tonight. Bonnie and I are not expecting any trophies but you never know about the Rally.

We have had a great time. The turnout of Tigers is outstanding. Having both George Boskoff and the Shelby prototype Thunderbolt AKA first Tiger has been special. Also in the Story session last night we got an update and partial look into the Shelby / Rootes history through some archival history!

This break finally gives me time to post a few pictures.

They should be in order of the way things happened. Driving to Big Bear, Rally, AutoX and Sunday's car show.

I drove back home last night after the dinner, here are some shots from TU.
There were some great photographers at the event so there should be many more high quality images to come.

Wow...so this is it for TU this year !!! No posting of the final results in each class...I hear some classes were decided by tie breakers in some very important classes...modified for sure...I guess it doesn't matter that many of us participants spent lot's of money to attend and only the folks that could get there could see the cars.......I don't know why we even have this forum

Moondoggie

FYI, the reason we have this Forum is so that people like Moondoggie can post things like the TU results (that he wants others to post for him).

Anyone who was at the Awards Banquet heard all the results and can choose to share them or not. I believe Moondoggie was there.

As I pointed out in an earlier post, the unpaid volunteers who actually do the club's work are heavily overworked and may actually have better things to do than take suggestions from the peanut gallery.

Personally, I have been busy with an out of town guest, George Boskoff, who left today. Now I guess I'll try to remember who won what. To be honest, I focus on the camaraderie at a TU and don't pay a lot of attention to competition so feel free to help me.

Matthew Taylor won the Lord Rootes.

The Howie went to David Wilson along with his 1st place in Stock. He also won the popular vote.

ps The first event was the Rally and it was won by my wife and myself. I believe the Phelps were second
The next event was the Tiger Quiz. Peter Phelps won it followed by Jere Teepen and Tom Hall.
The last of the "skill" events was the autocross.
I think Dale won in men's modified. Tom McDaniel 2nd & Doug Jennings 3rd.
Mens personalized was Stan Clark, Mike Michels and Joe Jazinski.
Terry Taylor was the stock winner, followed by his son & Lord Rootes winner Matthew and then Bob Josten.
I'll post more as I can recall them. Again, feel free to make any corrections in case I've messed up.

Do you have some pics Bill?

To offset the negative vibe? I posted a picture of your car. I like it very much. Told you so.

Someone will post the results? They were announced at the dinner Sunday night but I did not take notes. Did you?

Popular vote was David Wilson's Mk II and he was also winner of stock class in the show. Mathew Taylor won Lord Rootes. David also took home the Howie Schoenfeld (sic?) Trophy. Unofficial publication from impaired memory.

Thanks to the Many Volunteers

I would like to give a big THANK YOU to all the volunteers who worked very hard to put on such a great Tigers United! Tom Sakai laid out a comprehensive rally route, taking us to some very pretty country as well as some interesting locations (such as a really nice, small zoo). Jere Teepen, Chris Thoman, and Kieth Rowe laid out all those targets, er, cones for us at the Autocross at the airport, Dan Walters prepared a challenging Tiger Quiz (what else would you call a quiz where the best score was 16 out of 30?) and Steven Alcala organized the Concours and got some folks to volunteer to judge the many Tigers at the event. Travis and Laurie Compton took tons of photos which we enjoyed while eating a wonderful, delicious meal at the Awards Banquet. Mike Michels was our masterful Master of Ceremony at the Awards Banquet. But most of all, we all owe Dianne Akuszewski a huge thanks for taking on the challenge of organizing this event and making it one of the great ones!

Bravo

Is all I can add to Dave, and Michelle who spent what most likely felt like days in the windowless warm registration room then donned his Chevron togs to prep his car for the competition.

I would venture to guess all results and more great pics will make the next Tiger Tales a keeper for your scrap book or car history notebook. Me I am happy to have made it there and back again in a car with just over 1400 miles on it after sitting for 18 years. I feel lucky in so many ways. Imported beer mountain air new friends and fiddling around with a broken car that wasn't my own it doesn't get any better.

Great Job to everyone,

Concours Ties

I hear some classes were decided by tie breakers in some very important classes...modified for sure.

Wrong! There were NO ties in Modified.

Dale won Modified with 100 pts.
Bill Doolittle (AKA Moondoggie) was second at 99 pts.
It's not a tie when one car scores more than another.
(Not that we can trust what we "hear" but I "heard" that the judges liked Dale's execution of his performance theme better.)

There was a tie in the Concours in Personalized. Two cars got the same score which tied them for 3rd place. Since the event only had 3 trophies to award, there was a tie-breaking procedure used to determine who got the last piece of hardware. (For Lord Rootes purposes, both had the same points.)

You are right you can't trust what you hear. I was standing by my car when the Judging team came back to take a second look at my car and was advised that we had a tie on points and there would be a tie breaker. I lost a point on the hood latch so I don't know how that can be considered better execution of the performance theme...just so that you know.

Thank you CAT and all the volunteers.

Carol and I had a great time at Big Bear and we would like to thank Buck and all his CAT people who put it together. Great location, great hotel, excellent venues, tons of food and liquid supplies, perfect weather and lots of fine cars and interesting people. Who could ask for more!

Bill (moondoggie), I believe my wife and I were sitting on your right during the awards banquet. At the time, I didn't know you were moondoggie on this forum. I'm just glad I was judging the personalized class! I always have a great time at TU, with or without my car...indeed, it is about the comaraderie and catching up with old friends. Anyway, you know how I feel about your car...here's a great picture I took:

Ash,

I think you will find Bill has had those wheels custom made, based on a prototype LAT wheel that didn't make production back in the day (of course they were not large diameter back then) certainly makes the car look different.

Thanks Michael

TBH I thought they looked bespoke $$$$!!!

It is so nice to see something different from minilite style wheels!

Lovely wheels . Who makes them please?

Those are one off wheels that Bill Martin and I had made by Jongbloed
Racing Wheels. They are 16" reproductions of a prototype wheel that was
never used on what was to be the new Tiger in 68 had Chrysler gone on to
build a new one. The fronts are 16x7 and the rears are 16x7.5 and there has been no modifications to the body sheetmetal to make them fit. The spinners
are reproductions of the last version of the LAT 70 spinners investment cast in stainless steel that Bill & I also had made for these wheels. If you are interested in these wheels for your Tiger get in touch with Bill Martin @ Rootes Group Depot.

Thanks for asking ! I think the wheels really set the car off and it's hard
to see in the picture but the color is not black but and very deep shade of British Racing Green as in this picture
